SLIDEABLE EXTINGUISHER
A smoking article having a proximal end and a distal end is provided, including a combustible heat source disposed at the distal end; an aerosol-forming substrate downstream of the combustible heat source; a mouthpiece downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate and disposed at the proximal end; and a tubular element slideable from a first position towards the distal end to a second position. In the second position, the slideable element at least partially extends over the combustible heat source and is configured to reduce the air supply to the combustible heat source. The tubular element is configured to modify a heat output of the combustible heat source, and to control a resistance-to-draw of the smoking article by selectively covering air inlets.

Nucleic acid sequences encoding transcription factors regulating alkaloid biosynthesis and their use in modifying plant metabolism
Plant metabolism and alkaloid levels can be regulated by transcription factors that regulate the nicotinic alkaloid biosynthetic pathway. In one embodiment, the disclosure provides a transcription factor that negatively regulates alkaloid biosynthesis, such as nicotine biosynthesis.
Smoking article with extinguishment means
There is provided a smoking article (10) comprising: a charge (12) of tobacco material; a wrapper (14) circumscribing the charge (12) of tobacco material; a filter (16) arranged downstream of the charge (12) of tobacco material; and a hollow tube (18) defining an inner cavity (20) and attaching the filter (16) to the wrapper (14). An affixing portion (22) of the wrapper (14) is received within the inner cavity (20) and permanently secured to the hollow tube (18). A downstream end of the charge (12) of tobacco material is secured to the wrapper (14) by means of a thermally deactivatable adhesive (28) provided on an outer surface of the charge (12) of tobacco material or on an inner surface of the wrapper (14) or on both such that, upon deactivation of the adhesive (28), at least a portion of the charge (12) of tobacco material becomes slidable within the wrapper (14) in relation to the filter (16).

Reducing levels of nicotine in plants
Two genes, A622 and NBB1, can be influenced to achieve a decrease of nicotinic alkaloid levels in plants. In particular, suppression of one or both of A622 and NBB1 may be used to decrease nicotine in tobacco plants.
INTEGRATED CIGARETTE FILTER
An integrated cigarette filter that can light up, cut and put out a cigarette, hold ash and butts and filter smoke. It comprises upper and lower casings and is characterized by a smoke-collecting hood arranged on the upper casing and an inlet ventilator furnished inside the hood. The hood is snapped onto the upper casing in a detachable manner. The inlet ventilator is fixed to the upper casing with screws and snap-fasteners. The smoking device is inside the upper casing, while the purification device is inside the lower casing. There is a trimming between the upper and lower casings, and the two casings are connected with snap-fasteners. The device can eliminate passive smoking from the source, and directly purify harmful gases and particles in mainstream and sidestream smoke during use, without causing adverse effects or damage to people around smokers.

Nucleic acid sequences encoding transcription factors regulating alkaloid biosynthesis and their use in modifying plant metabolism
Plant metabolism and alkaloid levels can be regulated by transcription factors that regulate the nicotinic alkaloid biosynthetic pathway. In one embodiment, the disclosure provides a transcription factor that positively negatively regulates alkaloid biosynthesis, such as nicotine biosynthesis. In particular, the present disclosure provides methods for the inhibition of Nicotiana benthamiana auxin response factor 1 (NbTF1) to reduce alkaloid biosynthesis in plants.
