A water pipe has: a water chamber; a bowl or bowl connector; a hollow neck forming a mouthpiece; and a lid that seals both the mouthpiece and the bowl or bowl connector when the lid is in a closed position. A method of operating a water pipe includes assembling the lid in the closed position on the water pipe. A method of operating a water pipe includes, while the lid is out of the close position: combusting or vaporizing a smokable substance in the bowl to create smoke vapor; and drawing the smoke vapor through the water chamber and out the mouthpiece.

The lumen includes a region of reduced dimensions so that smoke can pass, while helping to prevent the smokable substance from further entering the lumen. A first cap is positionable on the first end to cover the bowl and a second cap is positionable on the second end to cover the mouthpiece. The lumen is an airtight container for the pre-roll and smokable substance in the bowl is protected with the first cap positioned on the first end and the second cap positioned on the second end.

An apparatus to automatically ignite herbs in a water pipe. The apparatus includes a cap dimensioned to engage a bowl piece of a water pipe and provide a restricted air path to the bowl. A pressure sensor within the cap senses a pressure change response to air being drawn through the air path. Responsive to a signal from the sensor a controller drives an igniter to ignite the herb within the bowl.

The present invention discloses a heat regulating device for a hookah, including a lid and a base. The lid and the base are movably connected to form a cavity for placing tobacco or other combustible substances. The upper part of the base has an annular groove; and the lid has a fastener which is hook-shaped; the fastener extends downward and inward and is embedded in the annular groove. The fastener and the annular groove are configured to improve the connection stability of the lid and the base. In the event of an accident, such as unexpected tipping over, the lid won't easily fall off from the base, so tobacco or other combustible substances can be contained in the device to reduce the possibility of scald, even fire and other accidents, thus improving the safety performance of the heat regulating device.
