The end effector comprises a plurality of staples removably stored therein and, also, an anvil configured to deform the staples. The stapling system further comprises a firing mechanism configured to deploy the staples along a staple firing path longer than 60 mm, a camera configured to capture an image of the patient tissue, a display, and a controller configured to generate an image of the staple firing path, wherein the images are displayed on the display.

ENDOSCOPIC SURGERY SYSTEM CONSISTING OF A PLURALITY OF STAPLES AND AN ENDOSCOPIC APPLICATOR

An endoscopic surgery system includes a plurality of staples and an endoscopic applicator having a staple cartridge for loading transversely arranged staples. The staples have a central region and two side limbs and the applicator has a mobile body for holding a staple to be applied, the staple being arranged in a transverse plane, and for ensuring the deformation of same by bending in relation to the axis of symmetry of the staple.

Implantable fasteners, applicators, and methods for brachytherapy

A fastener applicator includes a body portion including a handle assembly, a cartridge assembly supported within the body portion, the cartridge assembly including implantable fasteners, a drive assembly supported within the body portion and operatively coupled to the cartridge assembly to engage the implantable fasteners, and an actuation assembly supported within the handle assembly and operatively coupled to the drive assembly to fire a distal-most implantable fastener upon actuation of the actuation assembly. At least one of the implantable fasteners includes a body including a tissue facing surface, a tissue penetrating portion extending from the body, and a capsule affixed to the tissue facing surface of the body, the capsule including radioactive material.

Staple cartridge

A staple cartridge is disclosed. The staple cartridge can comprise a cartridge body comprising a deck and a bottom surface opposite the deck. The staple cartridge can comprise a plurality of staple cavities, wherein each staple cavity extends into the cartridge body from the deck to the bottom surface. Additionally, a plurality of wells can be defined into the staple cartridge from the deck to a lowermost surface of the well. A plurality of staples can be removably positioned in the staple cavities. The staple cartridge can comprise a tissue thickness compensator releasably secured to the cartridge body, wherein the tissue thickness compensator comprises a compensator body and a plurality of extensions extending from the compensator body into the wells, wherein at least one extension is compressed within one of the wells. Each well can surround at least one staple cavity and/or can extend between at least two staple cavities.

ENDOSCOPIC STAPLER AND STAPLE REMOVER

Disclosed is an endoscopic stapler that can be operated through the small working channel of a laryngoscope, other rigid endoscope, or a natural orifice to safely and effectively connect tissues permanently or semi-permanently. The endoscopic stapler apparatus includes a handle including a trigger, an outer shaft coupled to the handle, and an inner shaft with prongs positioned at a distal end of the inner shaft. The endoscopic stapler further includes a hook, wherein the hook and prongs are positioned to capture a staple at a tip of the prongs, wherein a proximal end of the inner shaft is coupled to the trigger, and wherein activation of the trigger causes the prongs to translate away from the handle causing the prongs to bend and close the staple.

The invention relates to a device for connecting body tissues with a head part, which has a longitudinal axis and can be pushed into a body opening, wherein a plurality of tissue staples are accommodated in the head part in a storage position which tissue staples consist of a linear main section and two engagement sections projecting perpendicularly therefrom and are each aligned in a first plane which is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. Optimal usability in the human body is achieved in that a hydraulic cylinder and/or a cylinder rod are at least partially arranged in the interior of the space which lies between the engagement sections of the tissue staples in the storage position, and preferably that the cylinder rod is firmly connected to a slider.

Surgical device with tandem fasteners

A surgical fastener applier having a handle and a fastener housing extending from the handle. The housing contains at least one anvil movable within the staple housing, the anvil has a proximal position and a distal position. When in the distal position a distal end of the anvil extends distal to the distal end of the staple housing. The housing contains a plurality of surgical fasteners each of which in the shape of a loop. At least one of the fasteners is placed around a portion of the anvil when in the distal position. The applier has a first mechanism for moving the anvil distally after a fastener has been deployed, and a second mechanism for moving the anvil distally after a fastener has been deployed. The second means is independent of the first means.

Method for creating a flexible staple line

A method for creating a flexible fastener line is disclosed. The fastener line comprises fasteners oriented in directions which are transverse or oblique to a tissue incision created by a cutting member. The fasteners can translate and/or rotate within the tissue when the tissue is stretched thereby creating flexibility within the tissue.

Shape memory implants and a method and apparatus for the loading and implanting thereof

An orthopedic fixation system includes an implant and an implant insertion device. The implant transitions between a natural shape and an insertion shape. The implant includes a bridge defining a slot with a first end and a second end and first and second anchoring members extending from the bridge. The implant insertion device moves between a loaded position and an unloaded position. The implant insertion device in its loaded position inserts through the slot of the bridge and engages the bridge at the first and second ends of the slot such that the implant insertion device constrains the implant in its insertion shape. The implant insertion device in its unloaded position releases the implant.

MEDICAL DEVICE FOR JOINING MATERIALS

A medical device for joining materials is provided. The device comprises a piercing element configured to penetrate materials to be joined. The piercing element is sufficiently sharp to penetrate materials to be joined and comprises a hollow interior along at least a portion of its length configured to distal advancement of a fastener therethrough; and an open tip through which the fastener can be pushed. The device can be used for fastening materials including tissue, synthetic mesh, and biologic mesh (e.g., ADM).
