Left atrial appendage closure
A left atrium appendage (LAA) isolator, including: a body sized and shaped to fit an at least partially inverted LAA of a human adult, wherein a distal end of said body defines a two-state sealing adaptor interface configured in a first state to apply a radially outward force against a wall of said LAA or against a wall of said LAA opening sufficient to anchor said body to the LAA wall, and in a second state the sealing adaptor interface is configured to apply a radially inward force on a portion of the inverted LAA positioned within said body.
Methods and apparatus for treating body tissue sphincters and the like
A plurality of structures that resiliently attract one another are provided for implanting in a patient around a body tissue structure of the patient. For example, the body tissue structure may be the esophagus, and the plurality of structures may be implanted in an annulus around the outside of the esophagus, the annulus being substantially coaxial with the esophagus. The attraction may be between annularly adjacent ones of the structures in the annulus, and it may be provided, for example, by magnets or springs. The array of structures is preferably self-limiting with respect to the smallest area that it can encompass, and this smallest area is preferably large enough to prevent the apparatus from applying excessive pressure to tissue passing through that area.
Method and system for closing left atrial appendage
The present teachings provide methods for resizing, reducing, and/or closing an atrial appendage. A delivery catheter is percutaneously advanced to the atrial appendage. At least two tissue anchors are implanted in tissue of the heart. Both tissue anchors are pulled together so that the atrial appendage is resized, reduced, and/or closed. This closure method and system could be used alone in closing the atrial appendage. This closure method and system could also be used in addition to other treatment mechanisms.
Accessory for Implanting a Medical Device Configured to Plug an Anatomical Duct
The invention relates to an accessory for implanting a medical device in a human or animal body, said medical device comprising an occlusion collar (1) adapted to surround and to seal an anatomical duct of said human or animal body, a fluid reservoir (2) and a tube (3) connecting the reservoir to the occlusion collar, said accessory comprising:—a plug (100; 100) adapted to seal an end of the tube; and—a collar (200) adapted to surround the tube, the plug (100) and the collar (200) having respective connection portions (103, 104; 203, 204) adapted to engage so as to fix the collar (200) and the plug (100) together so as to hermetically seal said end of the tube (3).
SURGICAL OCCLUDING DEVICES
A surgical occluding device includes a body portion configured to radially surround a tissue lumen. The body portion includes a plurality of segments and a plurality of folds. Each fold of the plurality of folds is defined between adjacent segments of the plurality of segments. Half of the folds of the plurality of folds define acute angles, and half of the folds of the plurality of folds define obtuse angles. The body portion is movable from a first orientation where the acute angle defines a first acute angle, to a second orientation where the acute angle defines a second, smaller acute angle.
Devices and methods for assisting valve function, replacing venous valves, and predicting valve treatment success
Devices and methods for assisting valve function, replacing venous valves, and predicting valve treatment successes. In an exemplary embodiment of an endograft body configured for expansion within a luminal organ, the endograft body comprises (a) a first portion having a proximal end defining a proximal end aperture and a distal end defining a distal end aperture, the first portion configured to increase a velocity of fluid flowing therethrough, (b) a second portion having a second portion proximal end defining a second portion proximal end aperture and a second portion distal end defining a second portion distal end aperture, wherein the distal end of the first portion is adjacent to the second portion proximal end, and (c) a valve portion positioned at or near the second portion proximal end, the valve portion configured to receive the fluid flowing through the distal end aperture of the first portion.
Systems, devices and methods for making and expressing foam used in medical procedures
A medical device for making foam includes a syringe having a plunger for dispensing a liquid from a liquid dispensing port, and a mixing chamber including a mixing chamber inlet, a mixing chamber outlet, a liquid flow channel extending between the mixing chamber inlet and the mixing chamber outlet, and a gas inlet channel that intersects with the liquid flow channel. The system has a gas cartridge containing the gas, a first gas conduit connected with the syringe, and a second gas conduit connected with the gas inlet channel. An actuator is coupled with the gas cartridge for releasing the gas into the first and second gas conduits. The released gas in the first gas conduit forces the plunger toward the liquid dispensing port for dispensing the liquid from the liquid dispensing port and into the liquid flow channel while the released gas in the second gas conduit flows into the gas inlet channel of the mixing chamber for mixing with the liquid in the liquid flow channel.
Loop ostomy device
Loop ostomy device including an elongate rod having expanded end portions is restrained beneath an exteriorized loop of bowel by retaining elements that can be removably passed over a portion of the rod to a position in proximity to the bowel. In methods of use, the loop ostomy device, after being deployed through the bowel mesentery, and after maturation of the stoma, is inserted along with the open bowel through the aperture of an ostomy appliance wafer that is fixed to the body wall and into the pouch of the appliance.
