ARTHROSCOPIC DEVICES AND METHODS
A tissue cutting probe includes an outer sleeve assembly, an inner sleeve assembly, a burr and an electrode. Each of the inner and outer sleeves has a proximal end, a distal end, and central passage extending therebetween. The inner sleeve assembly is coaxially and rotatably received in the central passage of the outer sleeve assembly, and the burr has a plurality of metal cutting edges carried on a first side of the distal end of the inner sleeve assembly. The electrode is carried a second side of the distal end of the inner sleeve assembly.
Articulating surgical instruments such as rongeurs
An articulating surgical implement (1) comprising: an elongate body (2) having a proximal end (4) and a distal end (5) and a longitudinal axis (6); a grip (7) on the proximal end for holding the surgical implement; a surgical implement head (8) formed on the distal end of the elongate body, and having surgical implement jaws (10, 11), the surgical implement head having a first joint (13) It that allows the surgical implement jaws to move relative to each other to open and close for gripping or cutting; a second joint (12) on the distal end of the elongate body for changing the angle of the surgical implement head relative to the longitudinal axis of the elongate body; a mechanism comprising a control lever (35), a control rod (39) and a linkage arm (40) for changing the angle of the surgical implement head relative to the longitudinal axis of the elongate body through an angular range of movement by pivoting about an axis of rotation of the second joint; and a mechanism comprising a pulley wheel (50) and a push/pull wire (51) for opening and closing the surgical implement jaws. The surgical implement head may be a rongeur and is operable at 90 degrees to the elongate body in either an upbite or downbite position. It has an angular range of movement of 180 degrees. A desired angle of the surgical implement head is selected by a user, for example for tissue removal from a target site.
System and method for extraction and cryopreservation of bone marrow
Methods are provided for extracting bone marrow cells from bone obtained from deceased donors, for preparing the bone marrow for cryopreservation and for obtaining desired cells from cryopreserved and fresh bone marrow.
Bone fastener assembly instrument
A bone fastener assembly instrument that can assemble a two-component bone fastener during surgery is provided. The bone fastener may be of a type that comprises a threaded bolt and nut for securing an implantable device to bone, such as a spinous process. A method for using the bone fastener assembly instrument is also provided.
Asymmetric clamp with ultrasonic tissue removal capability
An ultrasonically assisted clamping system and method for extending a spinal support rod system to additional vertebrae of the spine. A clamp assembly and a receptacle assembly securely couple an additional extension rod to an existing spinal support rod. Various embodiments further include an ultrasonic assist for cutting through tissue that may be present in the vicinity of the existing spinal support rods. In some embodiments, the clamp assembly is configured to augment the ultrasonic aspect of the system. The system cuts through and locally removes tissue from and proximate to the spinal support rods where the clamp assembly is to be mounted, without the need for a separate surgical procedure for removing the tissue prior to implantation, thereby providing a secure clamping of the newly implanted extension rod to the existing base spinal support rod.
DISTRACTORS HAVING ATTACHABLE PADDLES, IMPACTION DEVICES, AND METHODS FOR USE IN TOTAL ANKLE REPLACEMENT
A distractor system for use in a joint between two bone surfaces of an anatomical structure includes, for example, distractor and at least one detachable tool comprising a body having a proximal portion and a distal portion, said proximal portion being releasably attachable to at least one of a first end of the distractor and/or a second end of the distractor. The distal portion of the detachable tool being operably positionable in the joint between the two bone surfaces of the anatomical structure. The detachable tools may include a detachable paddle.
ARTICULATING PITUITARY RONGEUR FOR USE WITH A CANNULA
A pituitary rongeur medical instrument has jaws that can controllably articulate radially from a longitudinal axis of a shaft assembly of the pituitary rongeur and beyond a perimeter of a cannula during use. The pituitary rongeur is characterized by a handle, a shaft assembly defining a proximal end extending from the handle, a distal end, and a longitudinal axis, with the jaws pivotally connected to the distal end of the shaft assembly for articulating radial movement of the jaws relative to the longitudinal axis of the shaft assembly, a jaw controller associated with the shaft assembly and configured to controllably close and open the jaws, and an articulation controller associated with the shaft assembly and configured to controllably articulate the jaws. The handle is formed by a handgrip portion configured to receive a palm of a user and a lever portion with a finger loop configured to receive fingers of the user.
ULTRASONIC DEVICE FOR CUTTING AND COAGULATING
Apparatus and method to permit selective cutting and coagulation required in fine and delicate surgical procedures. The apparatus includes two body members having proximal ends and distal ends with jaw members located adjacent the body member's distal ends. The body members are joined at a pivot located adjacent to the first and second jaw members joining the first and second body members where the body members' rotation about the pivot defines a plane of rotation. The scissors are adapted for selective application of energy to at least one jaw member by a switch located in the plane of rotation.
Sternal closure system
A system including a bone punch tool and a needle guide. The bone punch tool can include a support arm having a support arm proximal portion and a support arm distal portion, a pivot arm having a pivot arm proximal portion and a pivot arm distal portion, and an arcuate punch configured to punch through bone. The pivot arm distal portion can be pivotably coupled to the support arm distal portion, such that the pivot arm proximal portion is configured to be moved away from the support arm proximal portion to extend the arcuate punch into a punch position to punch an arcuate hole through bone. The needle guide can be configured to guide a needle through the arcuate hole.
