20230000645 · 2023-01-05 · ·

A method of performing arthroplasty of an anatomical joint for receipt of an implant is disclosed. The method includes developing a preoperative plan, designing a patient specific guide based on the preoperative plan, obtaining the patient specific guide, placing the patient specific guide relative to the identified bone, fixing a pair of pins into the bone to establish an Alpha plane and executing the preoperative plan while referencing the Alpha plane. A desired amount of remaining first bone is determined based on a condition of the anatomical joint and a desired orientation of the implant. The patient specific guide includes a pair of bores defined therein and located in positions to accept a complementary pair of pins. The bores are arranged at locations on the patient specific guide to orient the respective pins in a direction optimized for surgeon access to the first bone and to establish the Alpha plane.

Hip replacement navigation systems and methods

Hip joint navigation systems and methods are provided. In some embodiments, the systems and methods described herein determine a table reference plane that approximates the Anterior Pelvic Plane. In some embodiments, the systems and methods described herein measure a pre-operative and post-operative point. In some embodiments, the comparison of the pre-operative and post-operative point corresponds to changes in leg length and joint offset. In some embodiments, the systems and methods described herein determine an Adjusted Plane. In some embodiments, the Adjusted Plane adjusts for tilt by rotating the Anterior Pelvic Plane about the inter-ASIS line. In some embodiments, the Adjusted Plane improves correlation between navigated cup angles and post-operative images.

An instrument for establishing orientation of a pelvic prosthesis comprises a hub, a first arm attached to and extending from the hub, and a second arm attached to and extending from the hub. The first and second arms define a nominal plane of the apparatus, and may extend from the hub at an angle relative to each other. Distances between the first and second legs and between the first and third legs are adjustable. The first, second, and third legs have tips, and the tips of the first, second, and third legs define a plane having a predefined geometric relationship to the nominal plane of the apparatus.

Patient-specific guide for repairing the pelvic bone defects depending on bone quality in fixing artificial hip joint surgeries

A patient specific guide for hip replacement for patients undergoing hip replacement surgery. The guide works for correction of the acetabulum defects based on a finite element model, which detect the bone quality and guide the surgeons for the optimum screws trajectories. The guide surface reflects the acetabular morphology which provide a correct posting of the cup, especially for the complex case as bone loss, severe fractures and tumors. CT-scan images are used to construct the 3D model of the acetabulum bone, therefore a finite element and virtual surgery planning methods are applied to create the electronic file of the patient specific guide. In final step, the 3D printers are used to produce the patient specific guide.
