Devices and Methods for Repairing a Pathological Connection Between Two Anatomical Structures

A device is disclosed for occluding an anatomical passage between first and second anatomical structures. The device includes a tip portion having a proximal element connected to a distal element through a member. The proximal element and/or distal element is movable axially along the tip portion while the other element preferably remains fixed in place. A handle is coupled to a proximal end of the tip portion through a shaft. The tip portion is positioned across the anatomical passage so that the proximal element occludes a first side of the passage and the distal element occludes a second side of the passage. A locking structure, such as a nut, is positioned or crimped against the proximal element, and, once done, the tip portion is released at the occluded passage.

Off-Center Tissue Anchors

A tissue anchor system is provided that includes a first tissue anchor, a second tissue anchor that is separate and distinct from the first tissue anchor, and one or more tethers, which are configured to couple the first tissue anchor to the second tissue anchor. When the first tissue anchor is unconstrained, a head thereof is coaxial with an axis of a shaft thereof, and a tissue-coupling element thereof extends from a distal end of the shaft, is generally orthogonal to the axis, and is shaped such that if the tissue-coupling element were to be projected onto a plane that is perpendicular to the axis, at least 80% of an area of a projection of the tissue-coupling element on the plane would fall within a first angle of 180 degrees in the plane having a vertex at the axis. Other embodiments are also described.

EMBOLISATION SYSTEMS

A bristle device for delivery into a body lumen comprises a longitudinally extending stem 1 and a plurality of bristles extending generally outwardly from the stem for anchoring the device in a body lumen. There may be at least two bristle segments and in some cases there are flexible sections between the segments. The flexible sections articulate to enable the device to pass through a catheter placed in a tortuous anatomy or to be deployed in a curved vessel, or across a bifurcation. In some cases at least some of the bristle segments are spaced-apart to accommodate bending of the bristles.

DEFECT CLOSURE SYSTEM AND METHODS OF OPERATION THEREOF

A method of closing a patent foramen ovale (PFO) including a septum primum and septum secundum is implemented using a suture device including an operational shaft housing an anchor assembly, a needle assembly, and a suture. The method includes advancing an end of the operational shaft to a proximal side of the PFO, positioning a distal portion of the end of the operational shaft on a distal side of the PFO, and actuating the anchor assembly to deploy the anchor assembly on the distal side of the PFO. The method also includes actuating the needle assembly on the proximal side of the PFO to deploy the needle assembly through the PFO and the anchor assembly, thereby deploying the suture through the PFO. The method further includes retracting the anchor assembly into the operational shaft, and withdrawing the distal portion of the operational shaft from the PFO, leaving the deployed suture.

Devices and methods for the treatment of heart failure

A device for treating heart failure in a patient. The device comprising a body, at least one passage through the body, at least one one way valve in the passage and a mounting means adapted for mounting the body in an opening provided in the patient's atrial septum. In use, the device is oriented such that, when the patient's left atrial pressure exceeds the patient's right atrial pressure by a predetermined amount, the one way valve(s) opens to allow blood flow through the passage(s) from the left atrium to the right atrium to thereby reduce the left atrial pressure.

Apparatus and methods for delivering devices for reducing left atrial pressure

A device for regulating blood pressure between a patient's left atrium and right atrium, and apparatus for delivery the device, are provided. The delivery apparatus may include one or more latching legs, a release ring, a pull chord, and a catheter wherein the latching legs are configured to engage the device for delivery. The inventive devices may reduce left atrial pressure and left ventricular end diastolic pressure, and may increase cardiac output, increase ejection fraction, relieve pulmonary congestion, and lower pulmonary artery pressure, among other benefits. The inventive devices may be used, for example, to treat subjects having heart failure, pulmonary congestion, or myocardial infarction, among other pathologies.

Medical device for modification of left atrial appendage and related systems and methods

Devices, methods and systems are provided for occluding an opening within the tissue of a body, such as a left atrial appendage. In one embodiment, a medical device coupled to a delivery catheter includes a fluid flow path that facilitates contrast fluid to pass through the delivery catheter and the medical device to a distal side thereof to provide imaging information as to the position of the medical device positioned in the opening, such as the left atrial appendage. In another embodiment, a medical device is coupled to a delivery catheter, the medical device including flaps adjacent a hub of the medical device that close-off a bore of the hub upon the catheter being detached from the medical device.
