Introducer Cannula Having a Pleural Access Liner for Use in Crossing Pleural Layers
An introducer cannula for use in crossing pleural layers includes an elongate tubular member and a pleural access liner. The elongate tubular member has a proximal end, a distal end, and a side wall that longitudinally extends between the proximal end and the distal end. The side wall has an outer surface and an inner surface, wherein the inner surface defines a lumen. The pleural access liner is made of a swellable and bioabsorbable material that swells when hydrated. The pleural access liner has a shape of an elongate tube and the pleural access liner has an elongate opening that surrounds an outer surface portion of the outer surface of the elongate tubular member.
Apparatus for providing access for a medical procedure
In some embodiments an apparatus for providing access for a medical procedure in a patient's body cavity includes a stem configured for insertion through an opening in a body cavity wall. The stem has a bore and a cap is disposed at a proximal end thereof and includes an entry port in communication with the bore which receives an instrument to be inserted into the body cavity. An inflatable annular seal is disposed on the stem proximate the cap and a conduit extends through the cap providing pressurized gas at a first outlet in fluid communication with the body cavity providing insufflation pressure. A second outlet of the conduit is in fluid communication the seal, which when disposed inside the body cavity proximate the wall and inflated by pressurized gas, bears on an inner surface of the wall urging the cap into contact with an outer surface of the wall while sealing the opening.
DEVICE
A seal comprises a first sealing member and a second sealing member. The sealing members each have an accessway to facilitate access from one side of the sealing member to the other side of the sealing member. The accessways are offset to facilitate sealed access of an object through the sealing members.
Sealing devices and surgical implements comprising same
Disclosed herein are sealing devices configured for improving sealing functionality with an engaged extension member of an apparatus. More specifically, disclosed herein are trocar sealing devices configured for improving insufflation gas containment in relation to trocars (and/or other related type of devices) that are used for enabling a surgical instrument such, for example, a laparoscope, to gain access to an abdominal cavity (or other body cavity). By providing for such improved insufflation gas containment, sealing devices as disclosed herein are particularly advantageous, desirable and useful in view of long-standing reasons for limiting insufflation gas leakage and in view of newly recognized reasons stemming from outbreak of COVID-19 disease for limiting insufflation gas leakage.
INSERTION DEVICES
A cannula for passing surgical instruments through tissue. In some instances, the cannula may include a distal flange flexible between a radial configuration and a longitudinal configuration. In some instances, the cannula may also include an actuator configured to move the distal flange between the radial configuration and the longitudinal configuration. In some instances, the cannula may include a valve disposed within the lumen of the cannula, and a cap configured to secure the valve to the cannula. The valve may include a body member having a base and first and second opposing walls extending from the base. In some instances, the valve has an arcuate cutout in the lower surface configured to fit around an instrument shaft inserted therethrough. In some instance, the cannula includes a slit extending an entire length of the cannular to permit an instrument shaft to be inserted and/or removed laterally.
Cannula assembly including an adjustable elongate shaft assembly
A cannula assembly includes an elongate shaft assembly that is adjustable by a clinician to vary the length of the cannula assembly. In particular, the elongate shaft assembly may be transitioned to provide various lengths of the cannula assembly by selectively positioning a plurality of segments of the elongate shaft assembly. In this manner, a single cannula assembly may be tailored to each patient or a surgical procedure being performed.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR USE WITH MRI-GUIDED FOCUSED ULTRASOUND
Systems and methods for sonicating a body within an organ of a patient include supplying ultrasound energy to the body in order to produce a liquified material, which can then be aspirated from the body via a catheter. Image guidance is used during aspiration of the liquified material.
Retention anchor for surgical access devices
A surgical access assembly includes a cannula and a retention anchor including an annular body and a washer secured to the annular body. The annular body includes an inner side surface defining an opening therethrough, and the washer includes an inner terminal edge defining an opening therethrough that is aligned with the opening of the annular body. The elongated shaft of the cannula extends through the openings. The washer is transitionable between a first configuration in which the inner terminal edge of the washer is coincident with or disposed radially outwardly of the inner side surface of the annular body so that the retention anchor is slidable along the elongated shaft, and a second configuration in which the inner terminal edge of the washer extends radially inwardly of the inner side surface of the annular body and engages the elongated shaft to fix the retention anchor to the elongated shaft.
Diaphragm entry for posterior surgical access
Methods and devices described herein facilitate improved treatment of body organs.
SURGICAL TOOL SEAL
A surgical tool having an inner drive hub coupled to an inner shaft, the inner drive hub having a boss; an outer hub coupled to a hollow outer shaft, the outer drive hub having at least one hole; and a seal having a body and at least one tab; wherein the inner drive hub and the inner shaft are configured for insertion inside the outer hub and the hollow outer shaft such that the boss is positioned distally to the at least one hole; and the seal body is positioned outside of the outer hub and the at least one tab extends through the at least one hole and proximally to the boss to removably couple the inner drive hub and the inner shaft to the outer hub and the hollow outer shaft.
