Apparatus for providing access for a medical procedure
In some embodiments an apparatus for providing access for a medical procedure in a patient's body cavity includes a stem configured for insertion through an opening in a body cavity wall. The stem has a bore and a cap is disposed at a proximal end thereof and includes an entry port in communication with the bore which receives an instrument to be inserted into the body cavity. An inflatable annular seal is disposed on the stem proximate the cap and a conduit extends through the cap providing pressurized gas at a first outlet in fluid communication with the body cavity providing insufflation pressure. A second outlet of the conduit is in fluid communication the seal, which when disposed inside the body cavity proximate the wall and inflated by pressurized gas, bears on an inner surface of the wall urging the cap into contact with an outer surface of the wall while sealing the opening.
DEVICE
A seal comprises a first sealing member and a second sealing member. The sealing members each have an accessway to facilitate access from one side of the sealing member to the other side of the sealing member. The accessways are offset to facilitate sealed access of an object through the sealing members.
Port Reservoir Cleaning System and Method
Devices and methods for cleaning a port reservoir are disclosed. The system includes a trocar, cannula and cleaning member. In one embodiment, the cleaning member has scraping members disposed at its distal end for mechanical breakup of thrombus formation. The cleaning member can also have a lumen for infusing anti-coagulant fluid and aspirating loose pieces of thrombus formation.
Endoscopic surgery device
An insertion part of an endoscope and an insertion part of a treatment tool, which are inserted in an outer tube, can be synchronously moved in the axial direction, and, even when the insertion part of the treatment tool is slightly moved in the axial direction, an excellent endoscopic image without shake is obtained. When a treatment tool of an endoscopic surgery device moves by a displacement amount over an allowance amount, an endoscope moves in interlock with the movement of the treatment tool. Moreover, the treatment tool 50 moves in the axial direction with the allowance amount t with respect to the endoscope 10. Therefore, when the treatment tool is moved by a displacement amount of allowance amount or less, the endoscope does not move. By providing such allowance amount, slight movement of the treatment tool is not transmitted to the endoscope.

STAPLER APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR USE
Apparatus and methods are provided for performing a medical procedure using a stapler apparatus including a reusable handle portion including a shaft include proximal and distal ends, a disposable end effector attached to the distal end of the shaft of the reusable handle carrying one or more staples. For example, the end effector may include first and second jaws movable relative to one another between open and closed positions, the first jaw carrying a cartridge which includes the one or more staples. A Doppler sensor, cutting element, thermal element, and/or grasper may be provided on the end effector. The end effector is introduced into a patient's body, tissue is positioned/locked between the jaws, and a plurality of staples are deployed into the tissue. The Doppler sensor is used to confirm that blood flow has discontinued in the stapled tissue, and the cutting element is actuated to sever the stapled tissue.
LOW FRICTION CANNULA SEALS FOR MINIMALLY INVASIVE ROBOTIC SURGERY
Embodiments of a cannula seal are disclosed. In some embodiments, a cannula seal can include a base portion that engages with a cannula; and a seal portion integrally formed with the base portion that slidebly engages with an instrument shaft such that an insertion frictional force between the seal portion and the instrument shaft for insertion of the instrument shaft is symmetrical and substantially equal with a retraction frictional force.
Simplified Surgical Cannula
Disclosed herein are multiple cannulas defining a lumen sized and dimensioned to receive one or more medical instruments, an inflatable outer membrane attached to an outer surface of the cannula, and at least one activator that reversibly pressurizes a fluid contained in the outer membrane to fill or pressurize the outer membrane.
SURGICAL ACCESS DEVICE WITH SELF-INFLATING BALLOON
A surgical access device has a cannula tube with a collar coupled to a proximal region of the cannula tube. A balloon is attached to the cannula tube. The collar includes a receptacle and an inflater is insertable into the receptacle. The inflater has a body with a chamber and a first compound. A cap is attached to one end of the body and has a cavity containing a second compound. A membrane is disposed between the body and the cap and is configured to keep the first and second compounds separate. A button extends through an opening of the cap and a piston is coupled to the button. The piston includes a spike extending away from the button and is translatable in the cap between a rest position and an actuated position. The actuated position is defined by a portion of the spike penetrating the membrane such that the first compound interacts with the second compound generating a gas that is communicated to the balloon via a groove of the cannula tube.

Disclosed herein is an obturator and/or cannula configured for insertion of a trocar assembly into a surgical cavity and allowing insertion of medical instruments into the surgical cavity through the cannula after removal of the obturator. The cannula can include an obturator for use in a trocar assembly. A trocar assembly is disclosed including a cannula having a shaft, optionally with a lumen, and one or more elements protruding outwardly from a surface of the lumen and an obturator. The obturator can comprise a shaft with one or more portions configured to accommodate the one or more elements protruding from the lumen surface when the obturator shaft is located in the lumen of the cannula.
