A system and method for collecting bone marrow includes a trocar component having an upper handle and an elongate shaft depending from the handle, the shaft having a sharp cutting edge at a lower tip thereof. An introducer component includes a lower handle having an inlet formed therethrough and an introducer cannula communicably connected to the inlet and depending from the lower handle. The introducer cannula has an open distal end. The harvesting component includes a support hub having an aspiration port and a harvesting cannula communicably connected to the aspiration port and depending from the support hub. The trocar and introducer components are introduced into the bone marrow and the trocar component is replaced by the harvesting component. The introducer cannula is withdrawn and interengaged with the support hub of the harvesting component and the assembly is manipulated to drive a blunt end of the harvesting component through the bone marrow without causing undue damage to the bone marrow and constituent cells. Bone marrow is aspirated through fenestrated openings in the side wall of the harvesting cannula.

A medical guidewire assembly is movable through an exit portal of a guidewire introducer. The guidewire introducer and the medical guidewire assembly are each insertable, at least in part, into a patient. The medical guidewire assembly is configured to reduce, at least in part, the hoop stress surrounding a puncture hole extending through the tissue of the patient. This is done in response to movement, at least in part, of the medical guidewire assembly relative to the puncture hole (after the puncture hole has been initially formed).

IMPLANT DELIVERY INSTRUMENT

An implant delivery instrument includes a housing with a main body section that defines a passage therethrough from a front end of the main body section to a back end of the main body section. The passage receives an obturator through an opening at the back end, and also receives an implant device. Movement of the obturator through the passage pushes the implant device through a discharge opening at the front end and through an incision into a subdermal pocket of a patient. The housing includes a tab connected to and projecting from the front end of the main body section. The tab has a blunt dissection tip for maintaining the incision in an open state without creating or enlarging the incision, and the tab is configured to surround the implant device moving through the discharge opening along only one side of the implant device.

INTRODUCER FOR UTERINE TAMPONADE ASSEMBLY WITH ECHOGENIC ELEMENT AND METHODS OF USING THE SAME

A device for use with a uterine tamponade balloon catheter apparatus, such as the Bakri postpartum hemorrhage balloon, is disclosed. The device comprises a stylet comprising a hub at its proximal end and an atraumatic tip at its distal end. The device is configured to be removably coupled to the tamponade balloon catheter apparatus to aid in the insertion and positioning of the tamponade balloon catheter within the uterine cavity, allowing the balloon to function as intended for the control and management of postpartum hemorrhage and uterine bleeding. The tamponade balloon catheter includes an echogenic element to aid in visualization by ultrasound during insertion and use. Methods of use of the device are also disclosed.

Removable catheter cap covers flexible medical tube (e.g., catheter) distal tip during delivery in a body lumen. Catheter cap includes: cap body removably connectable to, for capping, catheter distal tip, and transformable into a predefined constituent part freely passable through catheter lumen; and cap releasing member extending through catheter proximal end when catheter cap is connected to the catheter, and manipulatable for transforming cap body into constituent part or/and for withdrawing constituent part from catheter distal tip through catheter lumen. Exemplary applications are: provision of a catheter assembly including a catheter and the removable catheter cap connected thereto; a medical kit including one or more catheters and one or more correspondingly configured removable catheter caps; and a method for delivering a catheter in a blood vessel of a subject, for example, via an over-the-wire technique.

A surgical access system includes a clip, a cannula, and an obturator. The clip includes a first housing half and a second housing half. The first and second housing halves have first end portions pivotably coupled together and second end portions having respective first and second fastener portions. The clip is movable between an open position in which the second end portions are spaced apart from each other and a closed position in which the first and second fastener portions of the second end portions are engaged with each other. The cannula and the obturator are retained between the first and second housing halves when the clip is in the closed position.

A seal assembly including a septum seal, a lower seal support, an upper seal support and a return spring is disclosed. The septum seal includes an orifice and a plurality of apertures. The lower seal support includes an engagement surface configured to engage a portion of the septum seal. The upper seal support includes a plurality of fingers, wherein each of the plurality of fingers is configured to extend through a corresponding aperture of the septum seal. The return spring includes a collar portion and a plurality of spokes extending radially outward from the collar portion. At least a portion of the return spring may be sandwiched between the lower seal support and the upper seal support. The plurality of spokes is configured to bias the seal assembly toward a radial center of a housing.

A device and method is provided to gain access to interior body regions. The system includes a safety needle assembly, a stylet assembly, a blade assembly, an obturator assembly, and a dilator assembly. The safety needle assembly or stylet assembly accesses an interior body region, after which the blade assembly expands the pathway created by the safety needle assembly or stylet assembly. The obturator then further expands the pathway and delivers the dilator assembly to the desired location. The safety needle assembly, obturator assembly, and blade assembly are removed, leaving the dilator assembly in place for future procedures.
