Electrosurgical device for cutting tissue
A tool assembly for use with an electrosurgical device for cutting tissue includes a base portion, a return lead, an electrical insulator, a center pin, and an active lead. The center pin extends from the base portion and through a lumen of the electrical insulator. The active lead is securely fixed to the base portion and extends between the base portion and a distal portion of the center pin such that a portion of the active lead extends around the distal portion of the center pin and first and second segments of the active lead are spaced apart from the return lead. Upon activation, electrosurgical energy is transmitted from the active lead through tissue to the return lead to cut tissue in contact with the active lead.
Vessel sealer with heating and cooling capabilities
Certain aspects relate to systems, devices and techniques for vessel sealing and cutting. In particular, an instrument is provided that is capable of performing multiple functions, including sealing and cutting. The instrument can be robotically controlled, and can include a shaft, a multi-DOF wrist, and an end effector. The end effector is capable of generating and delivering heat via different energy modalities to perform the various functions at different temperatures.
Deployment mechanisms for surgical instruments
A surgical instrument includes a housing, an energizable member, and a deployment mechanism. The energizable member is movable relative to the housing between a storage position and a deployed position. The deployment mechanism includes a first actuator member movable relative to the housing from a first un-actuated position to a first actuated position to move the energizable member from the storage position to the deployed position and a second actuator member movable relative to the housing from a second un-actuated position to a second actuated position to move the energizable member from the deployed position to the storage position. Movement of the first actuator member from the first un-actuated position to the first actuated position effects movement of the second actuator member from the second actuated position to the second un-actuated position and vice versa.
CONTROL DEVICE, ELECTROSURGICAL INSTRUMENT AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING AN ELECTROSURGICAL INSTRUMENT
A control device (1) for an electrosurgical instrument (2), in particular a high-frequency sealing instrument, including a fixed handle part (3), a movable handle part (4), an activation element (5) for activating a current flow, in particular a first type, preferably a sealing current, wherein the activation element (5) is or can be adjusted between a deactivation position and at least one activation position when the movable handle part (4) is actuated, wherein, when the movable handle part (4) is actuated, the activation element (5) is or can be adjusted about an axis of rotation (7).
Methods and devices for diastolic assist
The devices and method described herein allow for therapeutic damage to increase volume in these hyperdynamic hearts to allow improved physiology and ventricular filling and to reduce diastolic filling pressure by making the ventricle less stiff.
Smoke evacuation electrosurgical pencil with adjustable electrode and vent tube
An electrosurgical smoke evacuation pencil includes a handle housing having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the handle housing defining a first lumen therethrough. The electrosurgical pencil also includes a nozzle disposed within the first lumen and defining a second lumen, the nozzle being movable relative to and within the handle housing and extending proximally past the proximal end portion of the handle housing. The electrosurgical pencil may further include a swivel connector coupled to the distal end portion of the handle housing, the swivel connector configured to couple to a suction source. The electrosurgical pencil includes a hub assembly securedly disposed within the second lumen, the hub assembly including a conductive tube configured to couple to a source of electrosurgical energy, and an electrode slidably disposed within the conductive tube, the electrode being movable relative to and within the conductive tube.
MEDICAL SYSTEMS, DEVICES, AND RELATED METHODS THEREOF
A medical device may comprise a handle having at least one actuator, a shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therebetween, the proximal end connected to the handle, the shaft including a distal articulable section including a distal tip, wherein the distal articulable section is configured to be articulated along a plane, a needle having a delivery lumen, the needle being movably positioned within the lumen of the shaft, and a vapor generator in fluid communication with the delivery lumen.
Electrosurgical forceps
An electrosurgical forceps includes a pair of first and second shaft members pivotably coupled to one another, an end effector assembly coupled to the pair of first and second shaft members, a knife, and a knife deployment mechanism. The knife deployment mechanism has one or more safety features that resist an inadvertent deployment of the knife.
Surgical instruments incorporating ultrasonic and electrosurgical functionality
A surgical instrument end effector assembly includes a first jaw member defining an insulative tissue-contacting surface and first and second electrically-conductive tissue-contacting surfaces disposed on either side of the insulative surface. A second jaw member of the end effector assembly includes an ultrasonic blade body positioned to oppose the insulative surface of the first jaw member, and first and second electrically-conductive tissue-contacting surfaces disposed on either side of the ultrasonic blade body and positioned to oppose the first and second electrically-conductive surfaces, respectively, of the first jaw member. The first jaw member is movable relative to the second jaw member between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position to grasp tissue therebetween. The first and second electrically-conductive surfaces of the second jaw member are movable, independent of the first jaw member, relative to the first jaw member and the ultrasonic blade body between a retracted position and an extended position.
Arthroscopic devices and methods
An arthroscopic system includes a hand piece with a motor drive. an elongate shaft assembly is detachably secured to a distal end of the hand piece, and the elongate shaft assembly includes an outer sleeve and an inner sleeve rotatably mounted in the outer sleeve. The inner sleeve couples to the motor drive when the elongate shaft assembly is attached to the hand piece, and an inner distal cutting window on the inner sleeve moves in and out of alignment with an outer distal cutting window on the outer sleeve as the motor drive rotates the inner sleeve. A distal electrode is disposed on an outer surface of the outer sleeve at a location opposite to that of the outer distal cutting window, and the outer sleeve member is rotatable relative to the hand piece when the hub is secured to the hand piece such that a user can hold the hand piece in one hand and rotate the outer sleeve to selectively place the outer distal cutting window or the distal electrode in an upward orientation relative to the user while continuing to hold the hand piece in the one hand.
