Surgical instrument with jaw alignment features
A surgical instrument that includes first and second jaws that are movably coupled together to move between an open and a closed position. The first jaw includes a first proximal end, a first distal tip, and a first jaw midpoint between the first proximal end and the first distal tip. The second jaw includes a second proximal end and a second distal tip. The first jaw includes a first alignment feature that is distal to the first jaw midpoint and is configured to engage a corresponding portion of the second jaw when the first and second jaws are moved to the closed position to align the first distal tip with the second distal tip.
CATHETER SHEATH FOR ACOUSTICALLY AMPLIFYING LASER-INDUCED PRESSURE WAVES
The present disclosure relates generally to the use of medical devices for the treatment of vascular conditions. In particular, the present disclosure provides devices and methods for using laser-induced pressure waves created within a sheath to disrupt intimal and medial calcium within the vasculature.
Navigation guidance method for complex catheters
A method and system for determining a target location for a medical device having complex geometry relative to an anatomical feature, and for navigating and positioning the medical device at the target location. The system may include a medical device including a treatment element having a centroid, one or more navigation electrodes, and a longitudinal axis and a navigation system in communication with the one or more navigation electrodes, the navigation system including a processing unit. The processing unit may be programmed to define a plane that approximates a surface of the anatomical feature, define a centroid of the anatomical feature, define a vector that is normal to the plane and extends away from the centroid of the anatomical feature, and determine a target location for the treatment element of the medical device based on the vector to assist the user in placing the device for treatment.
CONTROL DEVICE, ELECTROSURGICAL INSTRUMENT AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING AN ELECTROSURGICAL INSTRUMENT
A control device (1) for an electrosurgical instrument (2), in particular a high-frequency sealing instrument, including a fixed handle part (3), a movable handle part (4), an activation element (5) for activating a current flow, in particular a first type, preferably a sealing current, wherein the activation element (5) is or can be adjusted between a deactivation position and at least one activation position when the movable handle part (4) is actuated, wherein, when the movable handle part (4) is actuated, the activation element (5) is or can be adjusted about an axis of rotation (7).
Septotomy catheter for aortic dissection
Medical methods and devices for treating aortic dissections. A catheter-based cutting device permits cutting a septum of acute or chronic aortic dissections, in a retrograde manner. The catheter includes a base section having a central lumen therethrough and two flexible arms extending from a distal end thereof. The flexible arms can each have a guide wire channel therethrough. With distal ends of the two flexible arms separated, the two arms form a Y-shape with the base section. In one embodiment, with distal ends of the two flexible arms together, the two arms have a longitudinal profile, about a periphery thereof, identical to a longitudinal profile of the base section. A cutting component resides between the two arms. The cutting component can face distally outward between the two arms with the distal ends of the two flexible arms separated.
ELECTROLYTIC REMODELING OF CHRONIC CLOT
The present disclosure relates generally to the use of medical devices for the treatment of chronic venous disease and collagenous scar tissue. In particular, the present disclosure provides methods and systems for remodeling a collagen obstruction using energy and an expandable catheter.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR LASER CATHETER TREATMENT IN A VESSEL LUMEN
Systems and methods for laser catheter treatment in a vessel lumen. The method includes inserting the laser catheter within the vessel lumen to a location of a treatment area; presenting an image of the treatment area within the vessel lumen based on using an ultrasound (US) imaging system; and, detecting, in real-time, a bubble cloud that is a function of the laser catheter operation (at a prescribed speed and controlling a fluence and a pulse rate) in the treatment area. The method determines a vessel diameter, a real-time location and measurements of the bubble cloud, and estimates a dwell position and dwell time. A dynamic displayed image that is indicative of a progression of the laser catheter treatment is presented, and commands may be generated to modify the laser catheter parameters responsive to the estimated dwell position, the estimated dwell time, and a recommended treatment protocol.
Visualization devices and methods for use in surgical procedures
A surgical device includes a handle assembly, an elongated portion, an end effector, a visualization device, and a constant horizon mechanism. The elongated portion extends distally from the handle assembly and defines a longitudinal axis. The end effector is rotatable about the longitudinal axis relative to the handle assembly. The visualization device defines a visualization axis. A first portion of the visualization device extends through the elongated portion, and a second portion of the visualization device is disposed at least partially within the handle assembly. The visualization device is rotatable about the longitudinal axis relative to the handle assembly. The constant horizon mechanism is disposed in operative engagement with the visualization device and is configured to prevent the visualization device from rotating about the visualization axis when the visualization device rotates about the longitudinal axis.
RECONFIGURABLE ELECTRODE APPARATUS FOR DIAGNOSIS OF ARRHYTHMIAS
Example apparatuses disclosed herein are generally usable with catheter-based systems to measure or provide electrical signals within the heart and surrounding vasculature. Example apparatuses generally include an end effector with one or more spines that can rotate about a longitudinal axis such that the spines are aligned in a plane in a first configuration and the one or more spines are rotated out of the plane in a second configuration. The end effector can include features which provide improved and/or alternative diagnostic or treatment options compared to existing end effectors. In some example treatments utilizing some example apparatuses presented herein, an end effector can map a wall within the heart in the first configuration and a lumen of a vein in the second configuration.
Catheter Having A Fiber Optic Force Sensor With A Mirror Having A Patterned Reflectance
An ablation catheter Has a spring assembly residing between an ablation head and a proximal catheter body. Three optical fibers extend through a lumen in the catheter body. Three mirrors supported by the ablation head face proximally but are spaced distally from the optical fibers. The mirrors are provided with a pattern of reflectance that varies along a radius from a central area of reflectance. Light of a respective defined power shines from each of the optical fibers to a corresponding one of the mirrors with a reflected percentage of the respective defined light power being reflected back to the optical fiber. A percentage of the reflected percentage of the respective defined light power is captured by and travels along each optical fiber to a dedicated light wave detector connected to a controller. From the percentage of the reflected percentage of the light of the respective defined power received by each detector, the controller is programmed to calculate whether an axial or lateral force is imparted to the ablation head and, if so, the magnitude and vector of those forces.
