ELECTROSURGICAL APPARATUS
An electrosurgical apparatus is provided having a rechargeable power source which may be charged wirelessly. The apparatus comprises an oscillator for generating electromagnetic (EM) energy (e.g. radiofrequency energy or microwave frequency energy); a controller operable to select an energy delivery profile for the oscillator; a feed structure for conveying the electromagnetic energy to an output; a rechargeable power source arranged to supply power to the oscillator; and a receiver circuit comprising an inductive coupler configured to wirelessly receive power from a transmitter and supply received power to the rechargeable power source. The selection of an energy delivery profile may involve switching the oscillator on or off in one example, or may comprise more complex operation such as the selection of a pulse profile in some embodiments.
Robotic surgical system with safety and cooperative sensing control
A system for controlling a robotic end-effector is disclosed. The system includes a robotic arm, a surgical tool including an end-effector with articulatable arm and a clamp jaw. A tool driver is coupled to the surgical tool and a motor is coupled to the tool driver and is configured to drive the surgical tool. A sensor is configured to sense external forces applied to the end-effector. A central control circuit is configured to control the tool driver. The central control circuit is configured to receive a sensed parameter from the sensor, receive a sensed motor current (I) from the motor, and control the tool driver based on the sensed parameter and the motor current (I).
Electrosurgical apparatus
An electrosurgical apparatus having a feed structure comprising a radiofrequency (RF) channel for conveying RF electromagnetic (EM) radiation from an RF signal generator to a probe and a microwave channel for conveying microwave EM radiation from a microwave signal generator to the probe, wherein the RF channel and microwave channel comprise physically separate signal pathways, wherein the feed structure includes a combining circuit having an input connected to the signal pathway on the RF channel, another input connected to the signal pathway on the microwave channel, and an output connected to a common signal pathway for conveying the RE EM radiation and EM radiation separately or simultaneously to the probe, and wherein the microwave channel includes a waveguide isolator connected to isolate the signal pathway on the microwave channel from the RF EM radiation.
Multi-carrier ablation generator
A multicarrier ablation system comprising: an antenna for application to biological tissue; a multi-carrier signal generator configured to provide a forward radio frequency (RF) signal to the antenna, the forward RF signal comprising multiple subcarriers that occupy respective frequencies within a bandwidth of the RF signal; and a monitoring circuit configured to receive a reflected RF signal from the antenna and control the multi-carrier signal generator to adjust one or more parameters of the forward RF signal during an ablation procedure based on the reflected RF signal.

A power supply device in which a device shaft provided with a power receiver is inserted in a through-hole of a port site, which is capable of supplying electric power to the power receiver at a low cost and enabling fine operation of the device shaft. The power supply includes a port site; first terminals provided on an inner surface of the through-hole; wires that connect the first terminals and a power source; a device shaft that is insertable into the through-hole; a power receiver provided on the device shaft; second terminals provided on an outer surface of the device shaft; and wires that connect the power receiver and the second terminals. Electric power from the power supply can be supplied to the power receiver by inserting the device shaft into the through-hole to thereby bring the first terminals and the second terminals into contact with each other.
ELECTROSURGICAL GENERATOR FOR DELIVERING MICROWAVE ENERGY AT MULTIPLE FREQUENCIES
The invention relates to an electrosurgical system for delivering electromagnetic energy at a plurality of frequencies to cause different effects on biological tissue at a treatment site, and in particular to an electrosurgical generator. The electrosurgical generator comprises an electromagnetic signal supply unit for generating microwave energy to be conveyed on each of a plurality of microwave channels, wherein each of the plurality of microwave channels is arranged to convey microwave energy at a different frequency; an output port configured to be connectable to a probe for delivering microwave energy from the plurality of microwave channels; and a signal combiner configured to connect the plurality of microwave channels to the output port, wherein the signal combiner comprises a band stop filter module disposed at a distal end of each of the plurality of microwave channels, wherein the band stop filter module for each microwave channel is configured to block microwave energy at the frequency conveyed on the other microwave channels; and a common signal pathway extending between the output port and a junction at which the plurality of microwave channels are connected.
DRIVE ROD AND KNIFE BLADE FOR AN ARTICULATING SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
A surgical instrument includes a housing including an actuator disposed thereon and an elongated shaft extending therefrom. The elongated shaft includes an end effector assembly including a pair of opposing jaw members including a knife channel defined therein. An articulation section is disposed between the housing and the end effector assembly and is configured to articulate the end effector assembly upon actuation of the actuator, the articulating section and a proximal end of the knife channel defining a first distance therebetween. A knife assembly includes a knife having a length, the proximal end including an engagement feature disposed thereon. A knife drive rod is configured to engage the engagement feature to secure the knife drive rod to the knife such that the distal end of the knife extends beyond the engagement feature and wherein the knife length is less than the length of the first distance.
Modular microwave generators and methods for operating modular microwave generators
The modular microwave ablation system of the present disclosure includes a microwave instrument, a microwave generator, and one or more auxiliary modules that include circuitry for performing functions related to the operation of the microwave generator. The one or more auxiliary modules are removably connected to the microwave generator. The microwave generator includes a microwave signal generator that generates a microwave signal; a microwave generator controller in communication with the microwave signal generator; one or more terminals that connect to the one or more auxiliary modules, respectively; and a power supply and/or a power distribution module coupled to the microwave signal generator, the microwave generator controller, and the one or more terminals. The one or more terminals provide (1) power from the power supply and/or power distribution module to the one or more respective auxiliary modules and (2) communication signals to and from the one or more respective auxiliary modules.
PORTABLE TEST APPARATUS AND METHOD OF TESTING RF/MICROWAVE TREATMENT SYSTEM
A portable test apparatus for testing an RF/microwave treatment system, the portable test apparatus comprising: a connector configured for connection to a generator or amplifier of the treatment system and/or to a distal end of a reusable transmission cable of the treatment system; a measurement device configured for measuring RF/microwave energy received through the connector; and a test controller configured to: run at least one test of a set of tests for testing the treatment system, at least some of the set of tests comprising using the measurement device to measure RF/microwave energy supplied by a generator or amplifier of the treatment system to a proximal end of the reusable transmission cable and transmitted through the reusable transmission cable to the connector; and analyse and/or record and/or output results of the set of tests.
