Systems and methods for registration of location sensors

Provided are systems and methods for registration of location sensors. In one aspect, a system includes an instrument and a processor configured to provide a first set of commands to drive the instrument along a first branch of the luminal network, the first branch being outside a path to a target within a model. The processor is also configured to track a set of one or more registration parameters during the driving of the instrument along the first branch and determine that the set of registration parameters satisfy a registration criterion. The processor is further configured to determine a registration between a location sensor coordinate system and a model coordinate system based on location data received from a set of location sensors during the driving of the instrument along the first branch and a second branch.

Virtual reality training, simulation, and collaboration in a robotic surgical system

A virtual reality system providing a virtual robotic surgical environment, and methods for using the virtual reality system, are described herein. Within the virtual reality system, various user modes enable different kinds of interactions between a user and the virtual robotic surgical environment. For example, one variation of a method for facilitating navigation of a virtual robotic surgical environment includes displaying a first-person perspective view of the virtual robotic surgical environment from a first vantage point, displaying a first window view of the virtual robotic surgical environment from a second vantage point and displaying a second window view of the virtual robotic surgical environment from a third vantage point. Additionally, in response to a user input associating the first and second window views, a trajectory between the second and third vantage points can be generated sequentially linking the first and second window views.

A method of automatically registering a surgical navigation system to a patient's anatomy is provided. The method comprises programming a surgical navigation system with a first spatial relationship between a surgical component and a reference array connected to the surgical component, programming the surgical navigation system with a second spatial relationship between an anatomical feature of a patient and the surgical component, installing the surgical component on the patient such that the surgical component engages the anatomical feature in the second spatial relationship, and locating the reference array with the surgical navigation system. The navigation system automatically recognizes the position of the reference array relative to the patient's anatomy.

Automatic probe reinsertion

In accordance with one embodiment, an automated probe system includes a probe configured to be reversibly inserted into a live body part, a robotic arm attached to the probe and configured to manipulate the probe, a first sensor configured to track movement of the probe during an insertion and a reinsertion of the probe in the live body part, a second sensor configured to track movement of the live body part, and a controller configured to calculate an insertion path of the probe in the live body part based on the tracked movement of the probe during the insertion, and calculate a reinsertion path of the probe based on the calculated insertion path while compensating for the tracked movement of the live body part, and send control commands to the robotic arm to reinsert the probe in the live body part according to the calculated reinsertion path.

PATIENT-SPECIFIC SIMULATION DATA FOR ROBOTIC SURGICAL PLANNING

A method for creating a patient-specific surgical plan includes receiving one or more pre-operative images of a patient having one or more infirmities affecting one or more anatomical joints. three-dimensional anatomical model of the one or more anatomical joints is created based on the one or more pre-operative images. One or more transfer functions and the three-dimensional anatomical model are used to identify a patient-specific implantation geometry that corrects the one or more infirmities. The transfer functions model performance of the one or more anatomical joints as a function of anatomical geometry and anatomical implantation features. surgical plan comprising the patient-specific implantation geometry may then be displayed.

Imaging systems and methods may facilitate positioning an imaging device in a procedure room. A 3D image of a subject may be obtained, where the subject is to have a procedure performed thereon. A view of the 3D image of the subject may be adjusted to a desired view and an associated 2D image reconstruction at the desired view may be obtained. A position for the imaging device that is associated with the desired view of the 3D image of the subject may be identified. Adjusting a view of the 3D image to a desired view and obtaining a 2D image reconstruction may be performed pre-procedure, such that a user may be able to create a list of desired views pre. A user may adjust a physical position of the imaging device to obtain reconstructed 2D preview images at the adjusted physical position of the imaging device prior to capturing an image.

SYSTEM FOR MAINTAINING AND CONTROLLING SURGICAL TOOLS

Methods, apparatuses, and systems for maintaining and controlling surgical tools are disclosed. For each surgical tool, a surgeon can give verbal commands which can result in feedback provided by a synthesized voice or the execution of an action as instructed by the verbal command. The tools are monitored during use to ensure the tools remain within their operating parameters. The system alerts the surgeon should the tools approach their operational limitations.
