Staple cartridge with knife
A surgical stapling device includes cartridge assembly having a replaceable staple cartridge. The replaceable staple cartridge includes a knife having a cutting blade that is movable between a shielded position and an exposed position in response to advancement of a drive assembly of the stapling device. In aspects of the disclosure, the knife is pivotably coupled to an actuation sled of the cartridge assembly and is biased by a resilient finger on the actuation sled to move the cutting blade to the shielded position.
Mixed-reality surgical system with physical markers for registration of virtual models
An example method includes obtaining, a virtual model of a portion of an anatomy of a patient obtained from a virtual surgical plan for an orthopedic joint repair surgical procedure to attach a prosthetic to the anatomy; identifying, based on data obtained by one or more sensors, positions of one or more physical markers positioned relative to the anatomy of the patient; and registering, based on the identified positions, the virtual model of the portion of the anatomy with a corresponding observed portion of the anatomy.
Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Biliary Access System
The present disclosure provides an access system having a maneuverable catheter assembly configured for providing access to and navigating a desired vessel for subsequent treatment thereof. The access system includes an adjustable delivery handle assembly and an access catheter subassembly having a maneuverable access catheter configured to be delivered to desired site (e.g., within duodenum) to assist in treatment of a condition (e.g., drainage of a bile ducts via Endoscopic Ultrasound Guided Biliary Drainage (EUS-BD) techniques). The access catheter includes at least a distal section having an adjustable portion along a length thereof configured to transition to a pre-defined arcuate shape to provide directional control over the distal end of the catheter as it is navigated through a vessel (e.g., bile duct). The handle assembly includes additional elements configured to allow a clinician to maneuver and manipulate the distal end of the access catheter.
SURGICAL STAPLING INSTRUMENT
A surgical stapler can comprise an anvil comprising a staple pocket formed in a tissue contacting surface. The staple pocket can comprise a midline or centerline, a first forming cup, and a second forming cup. The first forming cup can comprise a first interior sidewall comprising a first vertical portion which is substantially perpendicular to the tissue contacting surface. The second forming cup can comprise a second interior sidewall comprising a second vertical portion which is substantially perpendicular to the tissue contacting surface. The first vertical portion and the second vertical portion can extend through the centerline, wherein the first interior sidewall and the second interior sidewall can comprise a trap for deforming a first staple leg of a staple to a first side of the centerline and for deforming a second staple leg of the staple to a second side of the centerline.
Fastener cartridges including extensions having different configurations
A fastener cartridge can include, one, a cartridge body comprising a deck and a plurality of fastener cavities and, two, a plurality of fasteners positioned in the fastener cavities. The cartridge body can further comprise extensions extending from the deck having different sizes and/or configurations. The extensions can control the flow of tissue relative to the deck and/or support the fasteners as they are ejected from the fastener cavities.
Surgical instrument with integral knife blade
A cartridge of a surgical instrument includes a housing, a drive member, and a knife member. The knife member is driven distally by the drive member and is configured to cut when moved distally. During an initial distal movement of the drive member, the knife member is coupled with the housing to restrain the knife member from moving distally. Subsequent to the initial distal movement of the drive member, the drive member drives the knife member toward the distal end.
Opthalmic microsurgical instrument
In some embodiments, a microsurgical instrument includes a trocar having a rigid, hollow shaft formed with a lumen extending from a proximal end to a distal end of the shaft. The distal end of the shaft may be shaped for tissue penetration. The instrument may further include a composite microcannula slidably engaged with the trocar in the lumen. The microcannula includes a light guide and a flexible hollow tube having an outer diameter less than an inner diameter of the lumen in the trocar. Other embodiments include placing the microcannula in the lumen of the trocar, illuminating the end of the trocar by illuminating the end of the microcannula, advancing the trocar from a selected entry point on an eye into a selected structure in the eye, and extending the illuminated end of the microcannula from the trocar into the selected structure.
Surgical Tool Guard
A guard for a tool. The tool is actuatable by a surgical device and has an elongated member and an energy applicator disposed at a distal end of the elongated member. The guard may have a monolithic body including a proximal end and a distal end opposite the proximal end. The proximal end connects to the surgical device. The body further has an interior surface defining a bore extending between the proximal and distal end and the bore adapted to receive the elongated member therethrough and an exterior surface extending between the proximal and distal end and encompassing the interior surface between the proximal and distal end. The body has at least one thermal mitigation channel located between the interior and exterior surfaces and opening through at least one port in the exterior surface.
Surgical stapling instruments comprising shortened staple cartridge noses
A surgical stapling instrument is disclosed. An end effector for the surgical stapling instrument comprises a staple cartridge assembly and an anvil. The staple cartridge assembly comprises a proximal end, a distal end, and a cartridge body comprising a shortened nose at the distal end. The staple cartridge assembly further comprises staples removably stored in the cartridge body, a driver configured to support at least one of the staples, and a sled movable toward the distal end. The sled comprises a ramp configured to lift the driver and at least one of the staples and a base, wherein the shortened nose of the cartridge body is shorter than the base of the sled. The anvil comprises a staple forming surface comprising a plurality of staple forming pockets and a blunt distal nose extending downward toward the staple cartridge assembly.
ROTATABLE BLADE GUARD FOR SURGICAL SAW
A surgical saw assembly that is adapted for cutting an anatomy. The surgical saw assembly includes a blade guard that supports a saw blade prevent deflection or skiving of the saw blade. The blade guard is rotatably moveable and has a front edge profile that interacts with a surface of the anatomy. The front edge profile has a geometry that is at least partially curved and/or follows a non-linear path of movement to provide a smooth interaction between the blade guard and the surface of the anatomy during rotational cuts that are not directly normal to the anatomical surface.
