END EFFECTOR DRIVE MECHANISMS FOR SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS SUCH AS FOR USE IN ROBOTIC SURGICAL SYSTEMS
A robotic system includes an electrosurgical instrument having an instrument housing with a shaft and first and second jaw members attached thereto movable to grasp tissue. An input is coupled to a jaw drive rod and is configured to move the jaw members. A strain gauge is coupled to the jaw drive rod and is configured to measure an amount of strain thereon and communicate the amount of strain to a robotic controller. A handle is remotely disposed relative to the instrument housing and is configured to communicate with the input for controlling the jaw members. The handle includes a housing having components therein and a lever operably associated therewith such that movement of the lever relative to the housing correlates to movement of the jaw members. The components are configured to operably regulate the resistance of the lever in response to the amount of strain from the strain gauge.
Miniaturized mobile, low cost optical coherence tomography system for home based ophthalmic applications
Improved optical coherence tomography systems and methods to measure thickness of the retina are presented. The systems may be compact, handheld, provide in-home monitoring, allow the patient to measure himself or herself, and be robust enough to be dropped while still measuring the retina reliably.
PERSONAL SAFETY DEVICE, METHOD AND ARTICLE
An article of clothing includes user-protection circuitry, integrated into the article of clothing. The user-protection circuitry includes condition-detection circuitry, which, in operation, generates one or more indications related to an environment of the article of clothing. The user-protection circuitry also includes broadcast circuitry including at least one pulsing device, and control circuitry. The control circuitry, in operation, activates the broadcast circuitry based on the one or more indications related to the environment of the article of clothing generated by the condition-detection circuitry.
SENSOR BASED PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS
A system, method, and computer program product for generating item recommendations based on sensor data captured by sensors on client machines. A server processes collected sensor data to estimate user physical activity based on sensor data patterns, and forms a user profile based on the estimated user physical activity. The server associates the user profile with relevant product or service recommendations, based on previous purchases by a user or by others matching the user profile. The user may make a purchase based on the displayed recommendations or forward the recommendations to others. The recommendations include discounts based on the user profile. Subsequent sensor data showing satisfaction with a purchased item serves as a testimonial to user satisfaction with the item. The sensor data may be collected from a user in an augmented or virtual reality system, and the recommendations may be displayed in such a system.
Systems And Methods For Visualizing A Trajectory With A Surgical Instrument
A surgical system for operating on a bone of a patient is described. The surgical system includes a reference device including one or more radiopaque markers, a first sensor configured to generate a first signal pertaining to orientation data of the reference device relative to a first coordinate system, a surgical instrument for coupling to an end effector, a second sensor configured to generate a second signal pertaining to orientation data of at least one of the end effector and the surgical instrument relative to a second coordinate system, and a navigation system. The navigation system is configured to determine an orientation of at least one of the end effector and the surgical instrument and superimpose a virtual representation of at least one of the end effector and the surgical instrument over the image based on the determined orientation and user input.
Biofeedback system
Apparatus for providing muscular biofeedback, comprising: facewear supporting biosensors arranged such that, in use, the biosensors are situated for detecting activity of a predetermined set of facial muscles; a feedback unit for providing biofeedback to a wearer of the facewear; and a control unit coupled to the biosensors and the feedback unit and arranged to identify patterns in the signals from the biosensors characteristic of one or more predefined imbalances in muscle activity between the left and right sides of the face; wherein the control unit is configured to, on identifying a pattern in the signals from biosensors characteristic of a first predefined imbalance in muscle activity between the left and right sides of the face, cause the feedback unit to provide biofeedback in correspondence with the imbalance.
ACCURATE TISSUE PROXIMITY
A medical system includes a catheter configured to be inserted into a body part of a living subject, and including a distal end comprising an electrode, and a processor configured to compute position coordinates of the electrode, and find a measure of proximity of the electrode to tissue of the body part responsively to the position coordinates of the electrode and position coordinates of a wall of an anatomical map of the body part.
SYSTEMS, APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR PROPERLY LOCATING ITEMS
Systems, methods and apparatus are disclosed for properly using and locating object retention wands via the use of at least one sensor located on or in the wand body for determining when the wand is capable of properly scanning a target area. In one form, a proximity sensor is used. In another form a motion sensor is used. In still other forms, both a proximity sensor and motion sensor are used. In some forms, the wand system further includes an indicator for indicating whether the wand is within proper read range, speed and/or orientation of a target area so as to confirm proper use of the wand to locate retained objects before concluding a procedure. In other forms one or more of a user interface, scanner and network interface may also be used with the system. Further systems, methods and apparatus are also disclosed herein.
