Embodiments of the invention provide devices and systems to monitor fullness of a patient's bladder. One embodiment of a bladder fullness (BF) measure system comprises a sensor device (SD) and a controller. The SD generates an output signal (OS) based on the force exerted by the bladder against SD the wherein the OS corresponds to a degree of BF. The SD may be attached to the bladder wall or adjoining tissue and positioned between the bladder and the pubic bone such that the SD is not affected by tissues force other than that from the bladder. The controller connects to the SD and causes an associated implant to perform a function when the SD output signal exceeds a predetermined threshold. Embodiments are particularly useful for providing information on BF to patients suffering from spinal injury or other conditions whereby they have lost the ability to sense BF and/or voluntarily urinate.

Lymphatic Access, Drainage, And Shunting

Several embodiments and methods are described for draining a lymphatic system for therapeutic purposes. The lymphatic draining can be performed by removal of fluid from the lymphatic system via a needle, a catheter, an access port, a reservoir, a shunt, or a combination of these devices. The drainage devices can be configured for use during only a single procedure or for reoccurring procedures.

DETRUSOR PRESSURE ESTIMATION FROM SINGLE CHANNEL BLADDER PRESSURE RECORDINGS

To perform urological diagnostics of a patient, detrusor pressure can be estimated using bladder pressure recordings from a single sensor. A signal comprising the bladder pressure data recorded by the sensor can be received. The bladder pressure data can include at least a detrusor pressure data component and a corrupting data component. An estimate of the corrupting data component can be extracted from the bladder pressure data. The detrusor pressure of the patient can be estimated based on the estimate of the corrupting data component and/or the estimate of the detrusor pressure data. An output indicative of the detrusor pressure of the patient can be provided based on the estimate of the detrusor pressure data component.

METHODS FOR ASSESSING SWALLOWING MOTOR FUNCTION

The present invention relates to methods for assessing swallowing motor function in a subject. The methods rely on obtaining intraluminal impedance and pressure measurements from the pharynx and/or esophagus of the subject during clearance of a bolus from the mouth and/or throat of the subject. The intraluminal impedance and pressure measurements are combined to derive a value for one or more pressure-flow variables in the pharynx and/or the esophagus of the subject. The value of the one or more pressure-flow variables is compared to a predetermined pharyngeal and/or esophageal reference value for the one or more pressure-flow variables in order to provide an assessment of swallowing motor function in the subject. The intraluminal impedance and pressure measurements can also be combined to generate a swallow risk index for the subject or to generate an obstructive risk index for the subject based on a combination of a value of more than one pressure-flow variable in the pharynx and/or esophagus of the subject. In this way, swallowing motor function in the subject can be assessed by comparing the swallow risk index or obstructive risk index for the subject to a predetermined reference swallow index or predetermined reference obstructive index, respectively. Products which make use of these methods are also encompassed by the present invention.
