Blood sequestration device and method

A blood sequestration device configured to isolate an initial, potentially contaminated portion of blood from the flow of blood of a patient, prior to directing the flow of blood to an outlet port where the blood can be accessed. The blood sequestration device including a body member having an interior wall defining a fluid conduit having a distal portion, a first proximal portion, and a second proximal portion, wherein the first proximal portion defines a sequestration chamber configured to isolate an initial portion of blood of a flow of blood, a vent path configured to enable the escape of gas initially trapped within the sequestration chamber.

DEVICE FOR DETECTING PROSTATE FEATURES

A device for detecting the characteristics of the prostate includes: an insertion element that is intended to be inserted through the anus into a subject’s rectum, a pressure sensor which is mounted on an expandable element and which is configured to detect the elasticity of the prostate tissues of the subject and/or at least a morphological and/or dimensional characteristic of the prostate of said subject, the expandable element which is configured to assume a first condition, in which it is housed in the insertion element, and a second a condition in which the pressure sensor is brought into contact with the prostate, an extractor, associated with the insertion element, which remains external to the anus of the subject, and an introducer element configured to be inserted inside the anus of the subject for stabilization of the device with respect to the anus of the subject.

Bodily fluid collection devices and related methods

Devices and methods for withdrawing bodily fluid from a subject are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a handheld device can include a housing having an opening, a skin-piercing assembly, and an actuator coupled to the skin-piercing assembly. The skin-piercing assembly can include a casing, a drive member pivotably mounted within the casing and carrying a blade, and a biasing member coupling the drive member to the casing. The actuator can be movable relative to the housing from a first position to a second position. In the first position, the drive member can engage the casing to maintain the biasing member in a biased configuration. Movement of the actuator from the first position to the second position can disengage the drive member from the casing to permit the biasing member to drive the blade at least partially through and/or across the opening in the base.

The disclosed apparatus, systems and methods relate to devices, systems and methods for the collection of bodily fluids involving a single-use actuation and retraction mechanism disposed within a collector.

SYRINGES CONFIGURED TO INHIBIT FORWARD PLUNGER MOVEMENT

Disclosed are systems that include a syringe having a barrel configured to hold a fluid and a plunger configured to draw the fluid into the barrel when the plunger is pulled backward through the barrel. The syringe is configured to inhibit forward movement of the plunger. For example, the systems can include mating pockets configured to engage barbs to inhibit forward movement of the plunger.

DRIED BLOOD SPOT COLLECTION DEVICE

Apparatuses and methods for dried blood spot (DBS) sample collection are disclosed. A dried blood spot sampling device is configured to deliver blood through a passage to an absorbent disk in the device and control an amount of blood saturating the absorbent disk. The sampling device may include a manually actuatable component adjustable between a first position, in which an outlet of the passage is not in physical contact with the absorbent disk, and a second position, in which the outlet of the passage is in physical contact with the absorbent disk.
