Device and Method for Reducing Foreign Body Response from Neural Implants

A device for reducing foreign body response in a subject caused by an electrode implanted in a subject's tissue. A base is secured to the subject, having a base aperture in proximity to the target site. The base can receive and align a body thereon. A body contains a chamber extending between a chamber aperture, aligned with the base aperture, at one end and a chamber opening at an opposite end. The chamber contains an acoustic coupling medium, such as polyvinyl alcohol cryogel, transmits acoustic vibrations from a transducer without altering their frequency. The transducer is mounted to the device and is configured to transmit acoustic vibrations into the chamber and through said acoustic coupling medium to the subject tissue at the target site, creating an acoustic field in the target site sufficient to reduce foreign body response in the subject where the electrode contacts the target tissue.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR COGNITIVE HEALTH ASSESSMENT

An improved system for assessing cognitive function is described that uses tracked electrical activity of the brain of the individuals in response to a specific sequence of stimuli in generating data sets, which, for example, can be encapsulated as a data structure. The data sets can include tracked specific response types, at different times and amplitudes, including, but not limited to, event related potential signal components. Brainwave features including, event related potentials, are tracked in relation to both pre-attentive brain responses and consciously controlled attention responses.

INDUCTIVE SENSING SYSTEM AND METHOD

An inductive sensing system (8) is for detecting bleeding (e.g. blood pools) in one or more regions of the body. The system comprises a resonator circuit (10) having at least one antenna (12) which is driven with an oscillatory drive signal to cause generation of electromagnetic signals for application to a body. The signals induce eddy currents in the body which generate secondary EM signals returned from the body. These interact with the resonator circuit by adding an additional component of inductance to the circuit. This inductance component varies depending upon the conductivity of the fluid in which the eddy current is induced. Blood has a different conductivity to other body fluids. The system is configured to detect presence of abnormal accumulations of blood based on the additional inductance component. The system generates a data output representative of the determination.
