According to one aspect, a medical device may be configured to couple to a body. The medical device may comprise a material layer; a plurality of adhesive layers coupled to the material layer and configured to couple to a user's skin, wherein each adhesive layer of the plurality of adhesive layers includes a plurality of micro passages; a channel extending between two adjacent adhesive layers of the plurality of adhesive layers; and a superhydrophobic coating covering at least a portion of each of the two adjacent adhesive layers and the material layer forming the channel.

Systems for recognizing temperature as a sign of surgical infection and methods of using the same

A system for detecting potential for infection includes a wound dressing and an electronics component. The wound dressing includes a temperature sensing layer and a cover layer comprising a substrate and a backing layer. The electronics component includes a power source, an electronic control unit (ECU), and a communications interface positioned within a housing and removably coupled to the temperature sensing layer of the wound dressing. The electronics component is configured to receive a plurality of temperature readings from the temperature sensing layer, and provide an indication of potential infection of the wound based the plurality of temperature readings. In various embodiments, each of the plurality of temperature readings corresponds to a temperature of an area around a wound. Methods for preventing infections using the system are also described.

Flexible absorbent bandage

A bandage includes a top film, an absorbent layer and a perforated adhesive lower layer positioned under the absorbent layer for adhering the bandage to a user's skin. The absorbent layer includes at least one incision that improves the flexibility of the bandage.

A dressing for a wound includes a drape, an absorbent core, and a wicking member. The drape can be configured to sealingly couple with a patient's skin surrounding the wound. The drape may enclose an inner volume of the dressing. The absorbent core layer may be positioned within the inner volume of the dressing. The wicking member is positioned within the inner volume, wherein the wicking member extends from an underside of the absorbent core layer to the drape. The indicator may be configured to fluidly couple with the wicking member through the drape and receive fluid from the wicking member. The indicator may be configured to provide a visual wound status indication in response to receiving fluid from the wound through the wicking member.
