Disposable absorbent pants with advantageous stretch and manufacturability features, and methods for manufacturing the same
A method for manufacturing a disposable absorbent pant includes forming an elasticized multilayer web and joining a third nonwoven web to it and optionally sandwiching leg and waist elastic members between one or more layers of the elasticized multilayer web and/or the third nonwoven web to form disposable absorbent pants.
Apparatus and method for stretching and repitching elastic members
The current invention concerns a method and apparatus for stretching and repitching an elastic member for attachment to a moving substrate, the elastic member being stretchable in at least a longitudinal direction and said elastic member in an essential non-stretched condition comprising an initial length along said longitudinal direction, the method comprising the steps of: (1) providing the elastic member in essentially non-stretched condition to a set of repitching members with an initial supply pitch, said set of repitching members comprising at least a first repitching member and a second repitching member, and optionally one or more repitching members arranged between said first and said second repitching member; (2) receiving said elastic members arranged in non-stretched condition between said set of repitching members, whereby the distance between the first and the second repitching member corresponds to the initial length of the elastic member; (3) moving at least said first and said second repitching members following trajectories diverging from each other, thereby stretching said elastic members arranged between the repitching members to an application length which is longer than the initial length and which corresponds to the length of said elastic member in elastically stretched condition, whereby said repitching members are moved with selectively variable velocity when transferring said elastic members to selectively vary the application pitch of said elastic member in stretched condition on said substrate, the variation of the speed of said repitching members determining the application pitch of said elastic member in stretched condition on said substrate, characterized in that during step (3), said set of elastic members are rotated around a common rotation axis while the elastic member is being stretched from the initial length to the application length. Additionally, the invention concerns a method and apparatus for stretching and repitching an elastic member for attachment to a moving substrate whereby the elastic members are held by repitching members, which are rotated at an essentially constant rotational speed around rotation axes in trajectories, said trajectories being defined by having a different radial distance from the rotation axis to the repitching member rotating around said rotation axis at the application position where the elastic member is attached to the substrate, than at the initial position where the elastic member is received by the repitching members, thereby changing the pitch of the elastic members.
AN ABSORBENT SANITARY ARTICLE AND A METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
An absorbent sanitary article including a chassis and at least one transverse elastic element including in a unitary component an elastic gasketing portion extending between two side edges of the chassis and two elastic side panels extending transversally outwardly beyond respective side edges of the chassis.
Methods and apparatuses for making elastomeric laminates
The present disclosure relates to methods for making elastomeric laminates that may be used as components of absorbent articles. Aspects of the methods for assembling elastomeric laminates may utilize elastic strands supplied from beams that may be joined with first and second substrates, and may be configured to carry out various types of operations, such as bonding and splicing operations.
Method and apparatus for assembling absorbent articles
The present disclosure relates to assembling elastic laminates that may be used to make absorbent article components. Methods herein may include an anvil adapted to rotate about an axis of rotation, wherein first and second spreader mechanisms adjacent the anvil roll are axially and angularly displaced from each other with respect to the axis of rotation. During the assembly process, a substrate may be advanced in a machine direction onto the rotating anvil. The first spreader mechanism stretches a first elastic material in the cross direction, and the second spreader mechanism stretches a second elastic material in the cross direction. The stretched first and second elastic materials advance from the spreader mechanisms and onto the substrate on the anvil roll. The combined and elastic materials may then be ultrasonically bonded together on the anvil to form at least one elastic laminate.
Strand-based laminates in absorbent articles
Absorbent articles comprising a multilayer outer cover comprising a first outer layer and a second outer layer comprising a component that exhibits at least partial elastic recovery after mechanical activation in the machine direction; an inner layer, disposed between the first outer layer and the second outer layer, the inner layer comprising elastic strands; and wherein at least one of the first outer layer and second outer layer is laminated to the inner layer.
Methods and apparatuses for assembling elastic laminates with different bond densities for absorbent articles
The methods herein relate to assembling an elastic laminate with a first elastic material and a second elastic material bonded between first and second substrates. During assembly, an elastic laminate may be formed by positioning the first and second substrates in contact with stretched central regions of the first and second elastic materials. The elastic laminates may include two or more bonding regions that may be defined by the various layers or components of the elastic laminate that are laminated or stacked relative to each other. In some configurations, a first plurality of ultrasonic bonds are applied to the elastic laminate to define a first bond density in the first bonding region, and a second plurality of ultrasonic bonds are applied to the elastic laminate to define a second bond density in the second bonding region, wherein the second bond density is not equal to the first bond density.
Method and apparatus for assembling absorbent articles
The present disclosure relates to methods for assembling elastic laminates that may be used to make absorbent article components. Particular aspects of the present disclosure involve providing a first substrate and a second substrate, the first substrate and the second substrate, each having a width in a cross direction; providing an activated elastic material; elongating the activated elastic material; and ultrasonically bonding the first substrate together with the second substrate with the elongated activated elastic material positioned between the first substrate and the second substrate.
Methods and apparatuses for making elastomeric laminates with elastic strands provided with a spin finish
The present disclosure relates to methods for making elastomeric laminates that may be used as components of absorbent articles. The methods and apparatuses may be configured with a plurality of elastic strands wound onto a beam, wherein one or more elastic strands comprises a spin finish. During assembly of an elastomeric laminate, the beam is rotated to unwind the elastic strands from the beam. A portion of the spin finish may be removed from the advancing elastic strand with a spin finish removal apparatus. The spin finish removal apparatus may be configured to apply detergent to an advancing elastic strand and may also wipe and/or dry the advancing elastic strand. The treated stretched elastic strand may then be connected between a first substrate and a second substrate. In some configurations, adhesive may be applied to the treated the elastic strand, the first substrate, and/or the second substrate.
