The second portion of the containment flaps can have one or more properties that are different than one or more properties of the first portion of the containment flaps to reduce the lateral flow of body exudates out the sides of the absorbent article.

A second portion of the non-woven patch is free and forms a pouch. An end portion of the absorbent core is disposed adjacent to the second portion of the non-woven patch. The barrier extends along a width of the absorbent insert. The barrier extends through the fluid-permeable top layer of the absorbent core and connects the fluid-impermeable base layer and the one non-woven patch to direct fluid flow to the absorbent core and militate against fluid overflow.
