A measurement device is disclosed that includes a first component having an outer surface having one or more flexible articular surfaces, and an inner surface having a first area having protrusions defining a polygon with a plurality of vertices. A load plate can be in contact with the first area. A printed circuit board can have a central section and a first lateral section. The first lateral section can have a sensor array having a plurality of sensors. Each sensor can be positioned in alignment with a vertex of the polygon and having a load pad in contact with a lower surface of the rigid load plate. A reference sensor can be spaced from the lower surface of the load plate.
Technologies for preoperative implant size estimation
A computing system according to an embodiment includes at least one processor and at least one memory comprising a plurality of instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by the at least one processor, causes the computing system to determine a plurality of implant size predictions with associated confidence levels based on one or more patient or surgical parameters, wherein each of the implant size predictions identifies a confidence level that a prospective implant of a corresponding size will fit a patient, determine whether a combined confidence level determined based on a subset of the plurality of associated confidence levels is at least a threshold value, and recommend, in response to a determination that the combined confidence level is not at least the threshold value, incorporation of at least one of an additional implant size prediction of the plurality of implant size predictions in the subset or digital templating data to improve an accuracy of an implant size estimation.
Systems and methods to compute a subluxation between two bones
Systems, methods and a sensor alignment mechanism are disclosed for medical navigational guidance systems. In one example, a system to make sterile a non-sterile optical sensor for use in navigational guidance during surgery includes a sterile drape having an optically transparent window to drape the optical sensor in a sterile barrier and a sensor alignment mechanism. The alignment mechanism secures the sensor through the drape in alignment with the window without breaching the sterile barrier and facilitates adjustment of the orientation of the optical sensor. The optical sensor may be aligned to view a surgical site when the alignment mechanism, assembled with the sterile drape and optical sensor, is attached to a bone. The alignment mechanism may be a lockable ball joint and facilitate orientation of the sensor in at least two degrees of freedom. A quick connect mechanism may couple the alignment mechanism to the bone.
Set screw sensor placement
A load sensing assembly for a spinal implant includes a set screw having a central opening that extends from a first end of the set screw toward a second end of the set screw. The second end of the set screw is configured to engage with an anchoring member. The load sensing assembly includes an antenna, an integrated circuit in communication with the antenna, where the integrated circuit is positioned within the central opening of the set screw, and a strain gauge in connection with the integrated circuit. The strain gauge is located within the central opening of the set screw in proximity to the second end of the set screw.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR TRACKING OBJECTS IN COMPUTER-ASSISTED SURGERY
A computer-assisted surgery system comprises instruments adapted to be used to perform tasks related to surgery. A reference device is in a fixed relation to a bone. A rotating magnet creates a magnetic field plane, the rotating magnet being connected to one of the instrument and the reference device. A magnetometer on the other of the instrument and the reference device produces signals as a function of at least its orientation relative to the magnetic field plane. A processing unit tracks said orientation of the instrument relative to the bone using said signals from the magnetometer subjected to the magnetic field plane.
Methods and Devices for a Surgical Hip Replacement Procedure
Devices and methods for use in a hip replacement surgical procedure. One aspect includes methods and devices for reaming selective regions of the femoral canal. This may include reaming distal and proximal sections of the femoral canal prior to reaming a middle region of the canal. Another aspect includes a dummy implant and methods of use. The dummy implant is inserted into the femoral canal and may be used for one or more of retraction of the femur, gauging a space with the acetabulum, and further revising the femoral cut. The aspects may be used together in a single surgical procedure or separately in different surgical procedures.
KINETIC ASSESSMENT AND ALIGNMENT OF THE MUSCULAR-SKELETAL SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREFOR
A system is disclosed herein for providing a kinetic assessment and preparation of a prosthetic joint comprising one or more prosthetic components. The system comprises a prosthetic component including sensors and circuitry configured to measure load, position of load, and joint alignment. The system further includes a remote system for receiving, processing, and displaying quantitative measurements from the sensors. The kinetic assessment measures joint alignment under loading that will be similar to that of a final joint installation. The kinetic assessment can use trial or permanent prosthetic components. Furthermore, adjustments can be made to the applied load magnitude, position of load, and joint alignment by various means to fine-tune an installation. The kinetic assessment increases both performance and reliability of the installed joint by reducing error that is introduced by elements that load or modify the joint dynamics not taken into account by prior assessment methods.
PORTABLE ULTRASONIC MEASURING DEVICE SUITABLE FOR MEASURING PELVIC TILT
An ultrasound measuring device includes: a support bearing two ultrasound probes movable relative to each other by slide link, each of the two probes being movable relative to the support by ball-joint link, wherein the probes are capable of simultaneously acquiring two ultrasound images. The device includes a first set of measuring elements to measure a relative positioning of the probes, including one travel sensor and at least two orientation sensors. The device includes a second set of measuring elements to measure a positioning of the device relative to a reference plane, including at least one orientation sensor. The device localizes at least one point of interest on each of the two ultrasound images, and processes data coming from the first and second measuring elements, delivering a relative spatial position of the points of interest located in the images.
Devices and Methods for Treating Facet Joints, Uncovertebral Joints, Costovertebral Joints and Other Joints
The present invention describes methods, devices and instruments for resurfacing or replacing facet joints, uncovertebral joints and costovertebral joints. The joints can be prepared by smoothing the articular surface on one side, by distracting the joint and by implant insertion. Implants can be stabilized against a first articular surface by creating a high level of conformance with said first articular surface, while smoothing the second articular surface with a surgical instrument with a smooth mating implant surface.
METHOD OF ESTIMATING SOFT TISSUE BALANCE FOR KNEE ARTHROPLASTY
A method is provided for evaluating the tension or laxity of the soft tissue surrounding a patient's knee joint. Based on this evaluation, a surgeon may determine a desired resection depth for a knee arthroplasty procedure that will achieve an appropriate spacing between adjacent, articulating components of the knee joint.
