The optic comprises an anterior surface with a diameter greater than a diameter of a ring of the base. The posterior side of the optic has a posterior surface, a transition region for contact with the base, and sidewalls and tabs radially outward of the transition region. The sidewalls and tabs overlap at least a portion of the ring to reduce or even prevent decentration and tilt of the optic. Each tab has a lateral extension for coupling to the base.

The housing structure includes a posterior side, an anterior side opposite the posterior side, lateral sides extending between the posterior side and the anterior side, and a cavity at least partially defined by the posterior side, the anterior side, and the lateral sides. The posterior side includes a refractive surface and an opening radially outward of the refractive surface. The anterior side includes an aperture capable of allowing at least one of insertion, removal, and replacement of an intraocular device. The cavity is capable of containing an intraocular device.

An apparatus includes an intraocular pseudophakic contact lens having an optical lens and haptics extending radially from the optical lens and configured to be inserted under an anterior leaflet of a capsular wall in an eye in order to capture and confine the haptics under the anterior leaflet. Anterior surfaces of the haptics include capsular wall-engaging surfaces configured to contact an inner capsular wall surface at the anterior leaflet, where the capsular wall-engaging surfaces are configured to promote confinement, capture, or attachment of the haptics. Posterior surfaces of the haptics include ridges configured to capture at least one edge of an artificial intraocular lens in order to secure the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens to the artificial intraocular lens.

MODULAR INTRAOCULAR LENS DESIGNS AND METHODS

A modular IOL system including intraocular primary and secondary components, which, when combined, form an intraocular optical correction device, wherein the secondary component is placed on the primary component within the perimeter of the capsulorhexis, thus avoiding the need to touch or otherwise manipulate the capsular bag. The secondary component may be manipulated, removed, and/or exchanged for a different secondary component for correction or modification of the optical result, on an intra-operative or post-operative basis, without the need to remove the primary component and without the need to manipulate the capsular bag. The primary component may have haptics extending therefrom for centration in the capsular bag, and the secondary component may exclude haptics, relying instead on attachment to the primary component for stability. Such attachment may include actuatable interlocking members.

A two-part accommodating intraocular lens (IOL) device for implantation in a capsular bag of a patient's eye. The IOL device includes a primary lens assembly and a power changing lens. The primary lens assembly includes a fixed lens and a peripherally disposed centration member. The centration member has a circumferential distal edge and a first coupling surface adjacent the circumferential distal edge. The power changing lens has an enclosed, fluid- or gel-filled lens cavity and haptic system disposed peripherally of the lens cavity. The haptic system has a peripheral engaging edge configured to contact the capsular bag and a second coupling surface. The first and second coupling surfaces are in sliding contact with one another to permit movement of the power changing lens relative to the primary lens assembly and also to maintain a spaced relationship between the fixed lens and the lens cavity during radial compression of the power changing lens.

The exchangeable optic can include corresponding one or more couplers, which may be formed of magnetic material.

The IOL can be controllably and non-invasively moved relative to the PIR, with the movement being one or more of rotation, forward-backward movement, decentralization, tilt and angulation.
