ZIRCONIUM-COATED IMPLANT COMPONENT AND USE OF SAME
The present disclosure relates to an implant component (10, 20) having at least one connecting portion (30, 60), the connecting portion being at least partly coated with a Zr coating and the coating having a thickness of 1-20 μm, preferably 1-6 μm. The present disclosure further relates to a modular endoprosthesis comprising an implant component, to the use of a Zr coating to prevent crevice corrosion and/or fretting corrosion, and to the use of an implant component in patients suffering from a metal allergy.
CONTROL OF ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN CORROSION OF MEDICAL IMPLANTS
A dampening device that can be coupled to a medical implant to eliminate harmful electrical oscillations. The device includes circuity that detects harmful electrical oscillations in the implant. The device also includes circuity that generates cancelling electrical signals that counter the detected electrical oscillations. Alternatively, in a medical implant having a taper junction such as a standard hip implant, resistance welding of the taper junction just prior to surgical implanting may be performed after the appropriately dimensioned components are selected to eliminate a metal on metal interface where corrosion is most likely to occur.
Bio-mechanically compatible 3D-printed intervertebral disc
An artificial replacement disk assembly comprised of a core in between two endplates. The endplates have outer surfaces that match the surface morphologies of the corresponding vertebral endplates. The endplates may have textured inner surface to form a strong fusion with the core during the fabrication process. The thick solid endplates strongly fused to the core create a very resilient implant. Gripping structures on the endplates may permit easy manipulation of the assembly during surgical procedures.
AUTONOMOUS HYDROGEN EVOLUTION REACTION THRESHOLD DETECTION METHOD AND DEVICE
A method and apparatus to autonomously analyze the surface area and alloy composition ratios of a metallic implant, such as an orthopedic implant, so that an optimal voltage for biofilm disruption can be selected and make treatment easier based at least in part upon the autonomous detection of a hydrogen evolution reaction threshold.
Materials and methods for prevention of cold welding, corrosion and tissue overgrowth between medical implant components
Implants for prevention of cold welding, corrosion and tissue overgrowth on surfaces between medical implant components include a first medical implant component having a first implant contact surface, a second medical implant component having a second implant contact surface positionally interfacing with the first implant contact surface of the first medical implant and a separation coating material on at least one of the first implant contact surface and the second implant contact surface. Methods for prevention of cold welding and/or corrosion between and/or tissue/bone overgrowth on implant components and methods of sealing an interface between a first implant component and a second implant component in a prosthesis system are also disclosed.
Femoral prosthesis head
A prosthetic head for a femoral component has a metal shell with a tapered cavity. The shell has a part-spherical outer surface defining an inner portion terminating in an open end. A polymeric material completely fills the inner portion of the hollow shell extending from an inner surface of the shell to the open end. The polymeric material includes a conically tapered socket centered about the polar axis intermediate ends of the open end wherein the shell is a hollow titanium shell having an inner surface with a porous structure for receiving a portion of the polymeric material. The hollow titanium shell inner surface has at least one rib extending inwardly toward the conically tapered socket.
Bio-mechanically compatible 3D-printed intervertebral disk
An artificial replacement disk configured to be positioned in between a superior vertebrae and an inferior vertebrae. The upper and lower surfaces match the surface morphologies of the corresponding vertebrae and may be textured to promote bone in-growth. The artificial replacement disk may comprise gripping structures to permit easy manipulation of the artificial replacement disk during surgical procedures.
MULTI-LAYERED IMPLANT
A multi-layered implant and methods of forming the multi-layered implant are disclosed. The multi-layered implant includes a Metal Injection Molded body comprising a titanium alloy, a porous coating layer on a first surface of the Metal Injection Molded body, and a zirconium alloy layer on a second surface of the Metal Injection Molded body. The first surface and the second surface are on opposite sides of the Metal Injection Molded body. A zirconia layer may be formed over the zirconium alloy layer. The porous coating may be a titanium-based porous coating.
Methods of forming an oxide layer on a metal body
In one embodiment, a Metal Injection Molded (MIM) body may have one or more surfaces comprising a zirconium alloy. A method of forming an oxide layer on the zirconium alloy surface(s) of the MIM body may include hot isostatic pressing the MIM body, heat treating the MIM body, machining the MIM body to desired shape dimensions, polishing the surface of the MIM body, and oxidizing the polished surface of the MIM body. In some embodiments, the polishing step may include a first vibratory finishing step; and a second vibratory finishing step.
