An example apparatus includes a blade tip including a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the distal end of the blade tip includes a number of blades configured to morcellate bone in response to being rotated and a lead tip located within the blade tip and configured to maintain the bone graft harvesting apparatus centered on a bone graft punch hole.
Bone Fragment Collector And Processor
A device for collecting bone fragments includes a housing (512) and a filter element (522) disposed in the housing. The filter element has a first end (524), a second end (526), and a sidewall (528) that defines an inner peripheral (530) and outer peripheral (532) surface and includes a plurality of filter apertures (534). The inner peripheral surface at least partially defines a collection chamber (536) for collection of a composition comprising bone fragments. The outer peripheral surface of the sidewall and the housing are spaced apart from one another to define an exterior radial volume (540). The filter element also has a proximal portion (535) adjacent the second end (526) which defines at least one drain aperture (555). The composition is acquired and collected in the collection chamber with the exterior radial volume providing a primary fluid communication path with a vacuum source and the at least one drain aperture providing a supplementary fluid communication path with the vacuum source.
Partial joint resurfacing implant, instrumentation, and method
An implant for repairing an articular cartilage defect site including an implant fixation portion with an upper segment and at least one bone interfacing segment and a top articulating portion with an articulating surface and an engagement surface. The upper segment includes a supporting plate with a first locking mechanism segment. The engagement surface includes a second locking mechanism segment. The first locking mechanism segment with at least two channels is structured to couple to the second locking mechanism segment with at least two protrusions. The at least one bone interfacing segment structured for insertion into the articular cartilage defect site. An implant including an implant fixation portion, a top articulating portion, and a locking mechanism with a first locking segment coupled to the upper segment and a second locking segment coupled to the at least one engagement surface and structured to couple to the first locking segment.
Antibiotic delivery system and method for treating an infected synovial joint during re-implantation of an orthopedic prosthesis
An antibiotic delivery system including an intramedullary stem that is adapted to be removably mounted into a medullary canal of a bone. The stem includes a body having an inlet adapted to be in fluid communication with a source of liquid-borne antibiotic and a plurality of outlets disposed along the stem. A channel extends between the inlet and the plurality of outlets for delivering a fluid-borne antibiotic from the inlet to the plurality of outlets so as to distribute the antibiotic along the medullary canal in a controlled fashion. A method of treating an infected joint during a two-stage re-implantation of an orthopedic implant is also disclosed.
HARVESTING CANCELLOUS BONE AND MARROW FROM DISTAL FEMUR, PROXIMAL TIBIA, DISTAL TIBIA, OR CALCANEUS USING BONE PRESS APPARATUS
Methods of harvesting cancellous bone and bone marrow include extracting loosened cancellous bone and bone marrow—including a liquid component thereof—to a collection container that has a first cup and a suction port to which a suction source is connected. After extraction, the suction source is disconnected and a lid of the collection container is removed and replaced with a lid having a plunger with a press head that is configured to filter the extracted liquid by depressing the plunger toward a bottom of the first cup. The filtered liquid is poured through a suction port into a second cup while depressing the plunger, thereby separating the liquid from a semi-solid mass of cancellous bone that remains. The bone is extracted through a cortical opening in the femur, tibia, or calcaneus, or from an intermedullary canal that is preferably formed by reaming of the tibia using an orthopedic reamer.
BONE GRAFT HARVESTING
The present disclosure includes apparatuses for a bone graft harvesting device.
Process for creating bone cavities for bone healing
A process and system for performing orthopedic surgery to create a series of channels with a subject's bone to allow a reduced pressure system to be applied directly to the bone-implant interface to enhance bone healing is provided. The process for to promote healing of a bone of a subject includes creating a three-dimensional model of the bone; preoperatively planning a location of an implant relative to the model; creating a plan for the location of precision channels that reach the bone-implant interface based on the model and the implant; resurfacing the bone to fit the implant into or onto the bone based on the preoperative plan; and milling the precision channels into the bone in the location to promote healing of the bone and/or bone implant interface; and applying a pressure reduction system at the bone-implant interface to promote bone healing.
Instrument for manipulating an implant
An instrument (2) for manipulating an implant is disclosed, the instrument (2) comprising an attachment element (22), which is operable to engage an implant, an actuation rod (20), a distal end (34) of which is connected to the attachment element (22) and a handle (4) having a gripping surface (6). At least a proximal end (32) of the actuation rod (20) is moveably received within the handle (4). The instrument further comprises a drive mechanism (42), mounted on the handle (4) and operable to drive relative movement between the actuation rod (20) and the handle (4). Also disclosed is an instrument (2) for manipulating an implant, the instrument (2) comprising a handle (4), a suction cup (22) operable to engage a surface of an implant and moveably mounted with respect to the handle (4), and a release cord (104), fixedly connected between an edge (88) of the suction cup (22) and the handle (4). A method of releasing an implant from an instrument (2) to which it is attached is also disclosed. The method comprises displacing the suction cup (22) and associated implant with respect to the handle (4) until the release cord (104) causes peel back of the edge (88) of the suction cup (22).
