Gastric residence system
The present disclosure is in the field of gastric resident systems. A device for extended retention in a stomach is provided. The device includes: first, second, and third arms, the second and third arms being pivotally connected to respective ends of the first arm. The device is configured to transform between a compressed configuration and an expanded configuration. The device further includes a biasing member configured to bias the device into the expanded configuration whereby the second and third arms are configured to mechanically engage each other to retain the system in the expanded configuration.
Prosthetic ankle and foot combination
A prosthetic ankle and foot combination has an ankle joint mechanism constructed to allow damped rotational movement of a foot component relative to a shin component. The mechanism provides a continuous hydraulically damped range of ankle motion during walking with dynamically variable damping resistances, and with independent variation of damping resistances in the plantar-flexion and dorsi-flexion directions. An electronic control system coupled to the ankle joint mechanism includes at least one sensor for generating signals indicative of a kinetic or kinematic parameter of locomotion, the mechanism and the control system being arranged such that the damping resistances effective over the range of motion of the ankle are adapted automatically in response to such signals. Single and dual piston hydraulic damping arrangements are disclosed, including arrangements allowing independent heel-height adjustment.
PROSTHETIC KNEE JOINT, PROSTHETIC KNEE JOINT POWER GENERATING METHOD, AND TANGIBLE COMPUTER-READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM STORING PROGRAM
A prosthetic knee joint includes a thigh connection part to be positioned near a thigh part, a lower leg part rotatibly coupled to the thigh connection part, and a power generating, part for generating power using a resistance resulting from rotation of the lower leg part relative to the thigh connection part.

Prosthesis socket and method for controlling an adjustment of an inner circumference of a prosthesis socket
A prosthesis socket having a proximal insertion opening and an inner circumference which at least partially surrounds a limb stump, at least one connection device for a prosthesis component, which is connectable to the prosthesis socket, at least one actuator operable to change the inner circumference of the prosthesis socket, and at least one sensor coupled to a control device, wherein the control device is connected to the actuator and activates or deactivates same, depending on the received sensor signals, and to a method for adjusting the inner circumference.
Prosthesis and orthosis slip detection sensor and method of use
A device and method for measuring prosthetic or orthotic slip is presented. An optical sensor device is attached to the prosthesis or orthosis and measures the amount of relative motion between the prosthetic socket and the residual limb surface or between the orthosis and the affected body part. The sensor device is comprised of an optical sensor, a light source, a processing unit and a power source contained within a housing. A system for measuring multidirectional prosthetic or orthotic slip using the sensor device and automatically adjusting the fit of the prosthetic based on a determined threshold is also presented.
RESPONSIVE PROSTHESES
One aspect of the invention provides a prosthetic foot including a heel member, a toe member, and an attachment member comprising a shear thickening material (STM). In one embodiment, the attachment member has a first end and a second end. The first end can be connected to the heel member, and the second end can be connected to the toe member. In another embodiment, the attachment member further comprises an elastic polymer. In one instance, the elastic polymer is impregnated with the STM. In yet another embodiment, the attachment member further comprises an elastic reservoir. The elastic reservoir can contain the STM. Alternatively, the attachment member further comprises a rigid reservoir. The rigid reservoir can contain the STM.
Prosthetic wrist
Prostheses include a terminal device, a back-lock mechanism, a wrist, a limb-socket, and a harness system. The terminal device can be a five-fingered mechanical hand that provides a releasable adaptive grasp, and has independently flexible fingers. The limb socket can be 3D printed using a molded model of a remnant limb. The harness strap can encircle an unaffected limb and is coupled to the terminal device with a cable so that a user can control the terminal device. The harness system can include a 3D printed harness ring that couples to the cable.
ELECTROACTIVE POLYMERS AND SYSTEMS USING THE SAME
In one aspect, novel robust electroactive polymers (EAPs) is described, which contract and expand at low voltages to provide for a shape-morphing system, e.g., a prosthetic liner, and potentially entire prosthetic socket, to contract and expand in strategic areas as needed to maintain a comfortable and good fit throughout the day. In some embodiments, as the residual limb changes, these novel robust EAPs can change dynamically as needed to maintain a comfortable, snug fit of the prosthetic liner or socket with the hard shell of the prosthetic socket device. In some embodiments, the EAPs used in prosthetic liners or sockets can also be used to detect pressure as the device is being used, and automatically adjust to maintain fit through a control unit, so that the patient does not even have to stop and adjust his or her device as he or she goes about an active day.
Electronically controlled prosthetic system
A prosthetic joint system for users comprising a housing having an interior cavity, a center axis in said interior cavity, and an attachment means for fixedly connecting said housing to said user; an inner cylinder disposed in said housing interior cavity wherein said inner cylinder rotates around said center axis of said housing; an appendage attached to said inner cylinder; a sensor system attached to said appendage; and a dampening system, having a power source, in communication with said sensor system, said inner cylinder, and said housing for controlling dampening of the rotation of said inner cylinder around said center axis of said housing.
