The assistive device accommodates active power generation when needed, but is otherwise configured to switch to passive control for other tasks. The assistive device further includes a continuously variable transmission to optimize movement of the assistive device for a variety of tasks. The assistive device includes a lower limb embodiment defining an artificial knee joint controlled by the plurality of control systems.
Magnetic locking mechanism for prosthetic or orthotic joints
A magnetic locking actuator for a prosthetic or orthotic device is provided. The actuator includes a first component including one or more magnets and a second component including one or more magnets. The first and second components are coupled to separate portions of the device. The magnets allow for adjustment of a length of the actuator to adjust an angular orientation of the first and second portions of the device. When magnets in the second component are aligned with magnets in the first component having an opposite polarity, a position of the second component is fixed relative to the first component, locking the actuator. When magnets in the second component are not aligned with magnets in the first component having the opposite polarity, the position of the second component is adjustable relative to the first component, thereby allowing adjustment of the height of the actuator.
Tools and methods for placing a medical appliance on a user
A method for operating an accessory device to guide the placement of an ostomy appliance on a user having a stoma. The method can include capturing an image or a sequence of images of the user applying the ostomy appliance to the user's body, processing the captured image or sequence of images, including: identifying a location of the stoma in one or more of the captured image or sequence of images, identifying a location of the ostomy appliance in one or more of the captured image or sequence of images, and generating location indicia representative of the location of the ostomy appliance with respect to the stoma in one or more of the captured image or sequence of images. A visual display including the location indicia associated with one or more of the captured image or sequence of images can be provided.
ORTHOPAEDIC JOINT AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING SAME
The invention relates to an orthopaedic joint comprising an upper part and a lower part pivotably mounted thereon and a resistance device which is located between the upper part and the lower part and provides resistance against a pivoting movement about a pivot axis, and has a resistance adjusting device coupled to a control device which is coupled to at least one sensor such that the resistance can be adjusted by means of the control device on the basis of sensor data transmitted from the at least one sensor to the control device, a function is stored in the control device in which the joint is locked against pivoting in at least one direction in accordance with the sensor data, the function can be activated for locking and deactivated for unlocking on the basis of the sensor data.
Hydraulic Locking Device and Systems
Technology is described to provide a locking device to control movement of a prosthetic limb. The technology may include a hydraulic damper having a movable damper wall in a hydraulic housing of the hydraulic damper, and the movable damper wall may form a first chamber and second chamber in the hydraulic damper. A first fluid channel may be coupled to the first chamber. In addition, a latch may be in fluid communication with the first fluid channel. A poppet valve can be configured to set the latch in an open position when pressure is reduced in the first chamber and to stop fluid movement when pressure is increased in the first chamber. A second fluid channel between the second chamber and the latch may enable fluid to flow between the second chamber and the latch.
TOOLS AND METHODS FOR PLACING AN OSTOMY APPLIANCE ON A USER
Hand assembly for an arm prosthetic device
A prosthetic arm apparatus comprising a plurality of segments that provide a user of the prosthetic arm apparatus with substantially the same movement capability and function as a human arm. The segments are connectable to one another and connectable to a harness mount that may be adorned by the user. Each segment of the plurality of segments provides a portion of the movement capability, enabling the plurality of connected segments connected to the harness mount to provide substantially the same movement capability as that lacking in the user.
Prosthesis socket and method for controlling an adjustment of an inner circumference of a prosthesis socket
A prosthesis socket having a proximal insertion opening and an inner circumference which at least partially surrounds a limb stump, at least one connection device for a prosthesis component, which is connectable to the prosthesis socket, at least one actuator operable to change the inner circumference of the prosthesis socket, and at least one sensor coupled to a control device, wherein the control device is connected to the actuator and activates or deactivates same, depending on the received sensor signals, and to a method for adjusting the inner circumference.
PROSTHETIC JOINT WITH A MECHANICAL RESPONSE SYSTEM TO POSITION AND RATE OF CHANGE
A prosthetic joint and a method of controlling dorsiflexion and plantarflexion of the hydraulic prosthetic ankle joint. The method includes generating ground reaction forces with a hydraulic prosthetic ankle, wherein the prosthetic hydraulic ankle comprises a first chamber and a second chamber, and the ankle is connected to a prosthetic foot; rotating the prosthetic foot in response to the ground reaction force; transferring fluid between the forward and rear chambers in response to rotation of the foot; providing a feature to occlude or partially occlude the fluid transfer between chambers; providing a non-electronic mechanism for controlling the flow responsive to both a position of the joint and a rate of change of position of the joint, and wherein the mechanism is arranged such that a dwell at a particular joint location or locations will occlude the flow path.
CONTROL SYSTEM FOR PROSTHETIC DEVICE USING A MAGNETORHEOLOGICAL ACTUATOR
A prosthetic or orthotic device has an elongate frame that houses electronics and an actuator rotatably mounted to the frame. The actuator can rotate in an anterior-posterior direction about a medial-lateral axis and includes magnetorheological (MR) fluid and a coil operable to selectively apply a magnetic field to the MR fluid to vary its viscosity and thereby vary a torsional resistance of the actuator about the medial-lateral axis. The device contains a layered control system that makes use of data collected by the embedded sensors in a prosthetic device for intent recognition, management, and actuator control. The layered control system uses a Luenberger observer for estimating joint velocity and a heuristic torque-setpoint component to control the function of a MR actuated knee prosthesis.
