AUGMENTED WOUND DRESSING SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR USING SAME AND SYSTEMS, DEVICES, AND METHODS FOR MONITORING THE HEALING PROCESS OF WOUNDS
20230172758 · 2023-06-08 ·

Augmented wound dressing systems may include traditional wound dressing components and one or more sensor devices such as accelerometers, humidity monitors, temperature monitors, electrocardiography leads, and/or oximetry sensors. Measurements from the sensor devices may be used to monitor one or more aspects of patient and/or wound health. In addition, or alternatively, one or more images of a wound that may be taken over time may be analyzed and/or compared with one another to determine one or more characteristics of the wound in order to, for example, assess wound health/healing and determine whether an intervention is necessary to assist with wound healing.

Method for detecting analyte in a bodily fluid, and dressing for implementing such a method

A method for detecting an analyte in a bodily fluid includes placing the detector in contact with at least one metabolite resulting from the metabolism or degradation of the analyte. The contact between the detector and the metabolite produces an optically detectable signal. The detection method includes the detection of the metabolite only in gas form, said metabolite in gas form coming from the evaporation of at least a part of said metabolite. The detection is also carried out without contact between the bodily fluid and the detector. A dressing for implementing the detection method is also described.

A system for wound monitoring and pathogen detection includes a sensor device having an inlet connected to a NPTW dressing and an outlet connected to a NPTW pump. The sensor device includes a sensor array configured to detect a gaseous emission from one or more pathogens present in a wound by generating signals upon exposure to one or more compounds in the gas phase; a microcontroller (MCU) operatively coupled with the sensor array, the MCU configured to process signals from the sensor array to identify the one or more compounds; a wireless communication component for transmitting data from the MCU to one or more external devices; and one or more visual indicators that presents information comprising an operational mode of the sensor device and a presence or absence of pathogen in the gaseous emission. A method for wound monitoring and pathogen detection is also provided.

Wound covering with infection indicium

A wound covering includes chemical sensor within a detecting temperature and pH at the skin surface. Changes in temperature and changes in pH at the wound surface are communicated by providing modifications to the visual indicia. The combination of either a change in temperature, a change in pH, or both provide a changing visual indicium that can communicate to the bandage wearer, or a medical caregiver, that a need to change the dressing and/or treating of the wound is in order. The visual indicia may be expressed as a change in color, or a change in the shade of a color that is located at or transmitted to the outer surface of the wound covering. The condition of a wound may be determined without the need to undress the wound for visual inspection.
