A method of producing an underpants-type disposable diaper includes forming an outer member having a non-stretchable region disposed in an intermediate region in the width direction and stretchable regions disposed on the two sides of the non-stretchable region in the width direction by: fixing elastic members to an inner sheet layer and an outer sheet layer in at least two edge portions of portions to be the stretchable regions without fixing the elastic members to the inner sheet layer nor the outer sheet layer in a portion to be the non-stretchable region; disposing a graphic sheet and disposing a no-extra-sheet region between the inner sheet layer and the outer sheet layer in the side portion of the non-stretchable region; cutting the elastic members and leaving cut marks and idle elastic members over the no-extra-sheet region; and leaving the elastic members in a region overlapping with the graphic sheet uncut.

To obtain a wide stretching range in a waist stretching sheet, a tape-type disposable diaper has a main body including a waist stretching sheet and a fastening tape on a dorsal side portion B. The adhesive is applied in a continuous manner to the substrate in a first tack down region which is disposed proximate to an end of the stretch laminate. The adhesive stripes have a width and a distance between adjacent adhesive stripes. The ratio of stripe width to distance between the adhesive stripes is in the range of less than about 1 or greater than about 0.33.

The apparent visual and physical indication includes a detectable distortion of the waist opening, the leg openings or both the waist opening and the leg openings. The detectable distortion includes at least one serviceable indicium disposed on a portion of the waist opening or leg opening or both that becomes flipped in towards an inner surface of the article or flipped out towards the outer surface of the article when the article is not properly fitted.
