11589899 · 2023-02-28 · ·

The disclosed artificial insemination system comprises a cervical plug, catheter, and positioning tool. The cervical plug comprises a shield configured to cover an orifice, an arm attached to one side of the shield that is operable to be inserted into the cervical canal, and an insert member on the other side of the shield. A bore disposed within the cervical plug and extending through the insert member, shield, and arm is operable to receive the catheter used to deposit the semen sample. The positioning tool comprises a handle with a stem extending longitudinally therefrom and terminating at a bracket that is operable to receive the insert member and catheter and assist in preventing the cervical plug from becoming dislodged when the catheter is removed. A further object of this invention is the process by which the disclosed system is used to increase the efficacy of artificial insemination.

A birth control assembly for inhibiting sperm from entering a uterus includes a tube that may be inserted into a cervix. A valve is coupled to the tube. The valve inhibits sperm from entering the tube thereby facilitating the tube to control birth. The valve facilitates menstrual fluid to exit the cervix.

Interference-relief type delivery detachment systems

Various features are described that are adapted to improve performance of interference-relief type delivery systems. A delivery system provided herein comprises an implant comprising a socket at a proximal end of the implant; an elongate sleeve having (i) a proximal section, (ii) a distal section slidably disposed within the socket, and (iii) a window between the proximal section and the distal section, the window extending through a wall of the sleeve; and a core member having a proximal portion slidably received within the proximal section of the sleeve and a distal portion extending through the window to a space outside the sleeve and within the socket. The distal portion of the core member provides an interference fit with the distal section of the sleeve within the socket until the core member is withdrawn.

A medical device and method for artificial insemination are provided. The medical device has a shield and an arm secured to the shield at one end and extending outwardly from the shield. The arm is inserted into the cervical canal of a patient and the shield covers the external os of the patient. By inserting the medical device into a patient's cervical canal after insemination, a physical barrier that holds a semen sample within the cervical canal and prevents leakage from the cervical canal back into the vaginal cavity is established. The device may have a bore extending through the device for a catheter to pass through. The bore has a valve to allow passage of the catheter and prevent backflow of semen. The arm may have a circumferential bulge to help keep the device in place during use.
