A propulsion assist device for a wheelchair having a hand rim slideably housed inside a channel of a frame pivotably connected to a lever arm. The frame is further comprised of a portion of grip material positioned inside the channel along an underside of a top of the frame. When a pair of devices are installed on a pair of hand rims of the wheelchair, the wheelchair is moved forward by a coordinated rowing motion of both lever arms forwards and then backwards along the hand rim. The pivoting motion of the frame causes the grip material sandwiched between the frame and the hand rim to pressure grip the hand rim and turn it when a user moves the lever arms through their rowing motion. Repositioning the frame along the hand rim causes the gripping material to release and slide along the hand rim before repositioning.

The present invention relates to a wheelchair mobility handle device. The device is comprised of a handle assembly is positioned within a hollow rim, wherein the rim is fastened to a wheel of a wheelchair. A band positioned within the rim attaches to a bearing on each side of a handle housing. Each bearing then attaches to a handle such that the handle can be pushed forward or backward to tighten the band and propel the wheelchair wheel forward or backward.

Apparatus and associated methods relate to a removable power assist for converting a manual wheelchair into an electronic wheelchair, based on configuring a friction roller to releasably engage with a wheelchair wheel, configuring the friction roller when engaged to drive the wheel through a contact surface with the wheel above the wheel center and behind the wheelchair seating area, configuring a motor to rotate the friction roller, and moving the wheelchair based on engaging the friction roller and activating the motor to turn the wheel through force by the friction roller against the contact surface with the wheel. The power assist may include a user-operable lever configured to engage or disengage the friction roller without a user leaving their seated position in the wheelchair. Configuring the friction roller above the wheel center and behind the wheelchair seating area may permit collapsible wheelchair folding or unfolding without uninstalling the power assist.

A hand propelled wheeled vehicle, specifically a wheelchair, containing a pair of hand actuated, lever driven mechanisms to rotate the main wheels. The levers pivot around attachment points on the left and right sides of the vehicle chassis. The left lever actuates a frame responsible for contra-rotating two integral one-way clutches arranged on a drive shaft coupled to the left main wheel, with the right lever operating the right side mechanism in an identical fashion. The arrangements of the clutches utilize both the forward (pushing) and backward (pulling) stroke of the lever to rotate the main wheels forward. Steering and braking control is afforded through attachments integral to the hand grips of the right and left hand levers, respectively.
