ORTHOPEDIC DEVICE AND METHOD FOR LOWER LIMB ELEVATION AND STABILIZATION
20180008499 · 2018-01-11 ·

In the context of medical recovery from injury and/or surgery to a lower extremity, a device may be used to provide elevation and support for a patient's foot, including ankle and heal, along with restraint against rotation of the lower leg of a patient. This can protect the knee from injury. The device may include a generally flat main body, two spaced-apart lateral ridges extending along or near lateral edges of the generally flat main body, and a medial depression between the lateral ridges that provides a support surface on which the ankle may be positioned.

Patient support formed from an elastomeric composition including a polymer blend of seeps copolymers

This disclosure provides a person support formed from an elastomeric composition. The elastomeric composition includes a polymer blend with the polymer blend consisting essentially of a first and second SEEPS copolymer. The first and second SEEPS copolymers are present in the polymer blend in an amount of from 75 to 95 percent by weight and 5 to 25 percent by weight, respectively, based on the total weight of the polymer blend. In addition, the sum of the first and second SEEPS copolymers in the polymer blend is 100 percent by weight. The first and second SEEPS copolymers have a weight average molecular weight of weight of at least 200,000 and 125,000 to 175,000, respectively. The disclosure also provides a patient support for supporting a patient with the patient support formed from the elastomeric composition.

COVER DEVICE FOR DECUBITUS ULCER PREVENTION
20230018683 · 2023-01-19 ·

Disclosed herein are systems and methods for supporting a patient, for example, for preventing or ameliorating pressure injuries or supporting a resting posture of a patient. The system can include a first layer comprising a sheet having a sheet length, a sheet width, and a vertical center line extending along the longitudinal axis of the sheet; a second layer affixed to the first layer, and longitudinally aligned with the vertical center line; and means for securing the first layer to a mattress and tensioning the second layer. The first layer and the second layer form a plurality of pockets disposed over the vertical center line, each respective pocket comprising at least one opening and configured to receive a pressure redistributing insert or a repositioning insert.

Patient support apparatus with magnetorheological material

A patient support apparatus is provided with selective stiffening features. The patient support apparatus may include a support substrate defining a patient support surface. The support substrate may include a magnetorheological material providing selective reinforcement support of at least a portion of the patient support surface to redistribute pressure about a surface of a patient. The magnetorheological material may include a distribution of ferromagnetic particles disposed within a polymeric material and exhibits a shape conforming, variable stiffness in response to exposure to a magnetic field. A controller may be provided and configured to create a correlation of patient specific data with an optimal stiffness or inflection force deflection (IFD) of the patient support surface, and generate a strength of the magnetic field based on the correlation.
