Methods and compositions for wound healing

The present invention relates to large scale manufacture of nanoscale microsheets for use in applications such as wound healing or modification of a biological or medical surface.

BARRIER LAYER

A barrier layer and corresponding method of making provide anti-inflammatory, non-inflammatory, and anti-adhesion functionality for a medical device implantable in a patient. The barrier layer can be combined with a medical device structure to provide anti-adhesion characteristics, in addition to improved healing, non-inflammatory, and anti-inflammatory response. The barrier layer is generally formed of a naturally occurring oil, or an oil composition formed in part of a naturally occurring oil, that is at least partially cured forming a cross-linked gel. In addition, the oil composition can include a therapeutic agent component, such as a drug or other bioactive agent.

SURGICAL SUTURES INCORPORATED WITH STEM CELLS OR OTHER BIOACTIVE MATERIALS

Materials and methods for immobilizing bioactive molecules, stem and other precursor cells, and other agents of therapeutic value in surgical sutures and other tissue scaffold devices are described herein. Broadly drawn to the integration and incorporation of bioactive materials into suture constructs, tissue scaffolds and medical devices, the present invention has particular utility in the development of novel systems that enable medical personnel performing surgical and other medical procedures to utilize and subsequently reintroduce bioactive materials extracted from a patient (or their allogenic equivalents) to a wound or target surgical site.

INJECTABLE MICRO-ANNEALED POROUS SCAFFOLD FOR ARTICULAR CARTILAGE REGENERATION

Provided are compositions that can be employed for generating microporous gel systems. In some embodiments, the compositions include at least one sub-population of soft hydrogel microparticles with a Youngs modulus of less than 50 kPa and at least one sub-population of stiff hydrogel microparticles with a Young's modulus of greater than 90 kPa. Also provided are methods for generating the compositions, methods for treating bone and/or cartilage defects in subject using the disclosed compositions, methods for treating osteoarthritis using the disclosed compositions, and methods for providing orthopedic implants to subjects.

BIOMIMETIC NANOFIBER TISSUE SCAFFOLDS

A biomimetic tissue scaffold for repairing an elongated tissue in need of repair can comprise a plurality of coiled flexible polymeric ribbons having a surface on which is formed an array of nanofibers, the ribbons forming a tubular body defining a first open end in which a first end of the elongated tissue is receivable, a second open end in which a second end of the elongated tissue is receivable, and a lumen extending between the first and second open ends.

Thrombogenicity test apparatus and associated methods

An apparatus for in vitro testing of medical device thrombogenicity includes an enclosure; a heating element thermally coupled to the enclosure; and a temperature feedback circuit operably coupled to the heating element and configured to control the heating element to maintain an interior of the enclosure within a preset temperature range. Positive, negative, and intermediate control rods are provided as standards against which to compare a medical device test article. Multiple blood test loops can be established through the enclosure using a common blood supply. The medical device test article can be placed in one of the loops, while the remaining loops can contain controls. Blood can be circulated through the test loops at a flow rate similar to that encountered in vivo, and thrombus formation can be assessed thereafter.

Also described is a medical device comprising the coating, and uses and methods involving the coating and the medical device.

Valve Material With Combined Anti-Clotting And Anti-Calcification Properties And Preparation Method Therefor

The present invention provides a valve material having synergistic anti-coagulation and anti-calcification functions and a preparation method therefor. The preparation method comprises the following steps: performing glutaraldehyde cross-linking treatment on an animal-derived biological valve material; immersing the treated valve material in a blocking solution containing an amine compound for 0.5-6 h, thereby blocking the remaining aldehyde groups after glutaraldehyde cross-linking; then placing the valve material into a reaction solution containing an anticoagulant and a cross-linking agent, and performing cross-linking treatment for 6-24 h at 4° C.-37° C.; and finally washing and obtaining the valve material, and storing the valve material in a mixed solvent of glutaraldehyde or isopropyl alcohol/glycerol. The method can effectively solve the problem of calcification and thrombosis caused by residual aldehyde groups in a valve material prepared by the existing method. The valve material prepared by the present method can be used as a valve material required for aortic valve, pulmonary valve, venous valve, mitral valve and tricuspid valve replacement.

The citrate salt can be trisodium citrate, and the catheter lock solution can further include a diluted acid for adjusting the pH of the catheter lock solution. In one configuration, the lock solution is between 15.5% and 16.5% w/v of a citrate salt, water for injection, and optionally an acid. The pH of the catheter lock solution may be between 6.4 and 7.5.

HEMOSTATIC NANOCAPSULES FOR STOPPING BLEEDING, VISUALIZING INJURY, AND DELIVERING DRUGS
20230018837 · 2023-01-19 ·

One of the significant challenges to translation of intravenously administered nanomaterials has been complement-mediated infusion reactions which can be lethal. Slow infusions can reduce infusion reactions, but slow infusions are not always possible in applications like controlling bleeding following trauma. Nanocapsules based on polyurethane are introduced as candidates that do not substantially activate complement protein C5a and the PEGylation and functionalization of the nanocapsules with the GRGDS peptide to create a new class of hemostatic nanomaterials is disclosed. Advantageously, the nanocapsules substantially avoid complement-mediated infusion reactions, promote faster clotting than controls, maintain maximum clot firmness, and do not activate pro-inflammatory cytokines.
