METHODS OF ALTERING THE SURFACE ENERGY OF COMPONENTS OF A MESH NEBULIZER AND MESH NEBULIZERS FORMED THEREBY
Methods of altering the surface energy of components of a mesh nebulizer are provided, comprising: a) depositing a metal surface layer on surfaces of the component; b) forming a hydrophobic coating layer comprising an organo-silicon or a self-assembled monolayer of an organophosphorus acid directly on the metal surface layer or indirectly on the metal surface layer through an intermediate organometallic coating; and either: i) removing select areas of the hydrophobic coating layer to expose the metal surface layer; or ii) forming a polymeric coating layer chemically bonded to and propagated from terminal functional groups on the hydrophobic coating layer that are capable of initiating polymer growth when exposed to a source of polymerizable monomer, on select areas of the components. Mesh nebulizers formed by such methods are also provided.
Methods of Using Water-Soluble Inorganic Compounds for Implants
A method for controlling generation of biologically desirable voids in a composition placed in proximity to bone or other tissue in a patient by selecting at least one water-soluble inorganic material having a desired particle size and solubility, and mixing the water-soluble inorganic material with at least one poorly-water-soluble or biodegradable matrix material. The matrix material, after it is mixed with the water-soluble inorganic material, is placed into the patient in proximity to tissue so that the water-soluble inorganic material dissolves at a predetermined rate to generate biologically desirable voids in the matrix material into which bone or other tissue can then grow.
COMPOSITE POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE POISSON'S RATIO MATERIALS FOR MEDICAL DEVICES
A stent for insertion into a vessel of a patient includes an inner tube comprising a positive Poisson's ratio (PPR) material and defining a lumen extending along a longitudinal axis of the stent; and an outer tube comprising a negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) foam material and disposed around an entirety of the inner tube, the outer tube extending along the longitudinal axis of the stent. The stent is configured to exhibit an auxetic behavior in response to a deformation of the stent. An outer surface of the second portion is configured to apply a pressure to an inner surface of the vessel when the stent is implanted into the vessel and the deformation is removed.
DUAL-FUNCTION ANCHOR SYSTEM
The present invention provides a surgical anchor comprising a screw and a coil; said coil having a conical shape, wound around the screw shaft with the first end of the coil being tapered and having a ring circumference smaller than that of the screw head and being engaged to the bottom of the screw head and the second end of the coil being flared with a larger ring circumference and positioned along the screw shaft.
BIOCOMPATIBLE IMPLANT AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING BIOCOMPATIBLE IMPLANT
A biocompatible implant according to one aspect of the present disclosure includes a base and a calcium phosphate coating film located on a surface of the base and including silver. The calcium phosphate coating film includes a plurality of calcium phosphate particles located on a surface thereof, and a plurality of needle-like crystals located on a surface of the plurality of calcium phosphate and the plurality of needle-like crystals are located in a gap at an interface between adjacent calcium phosphate particles among the plurality of calcium phosphate particles.
CLAW-SHAPED PEDICLE SCREW FASTENER FOR OSTEOPOROSIS
The disclosure discloses a claw-shaped pedicle screw fastener for osteoporosis, including an inner screw plug and an outer screw; the outer screw includes an outer nut and an outer screw stem, a through hole is defined in and penetrates through the outer nut and the outer screw stem, the outer screw stem has a thread segment, a claw-shaped segment, and a conical segment that are provided on outside of the outer screw stem; the claw-shaped segment is made of deformable metal; the inner screw plug includes an inner nut and an inner screw stem, the inner screw stem is inserted into the through hole, and the inner screw stem is threadedly connected to the first inner thread and the second inner thread; the inner screw stem and the second inner thread are reverse thread screws relative to each other.
ANTI-MICROBIAL COATING
An article comprising a substrate and an anti-microbial coating, wherein the anti-microbial coating comprises at least one solvent-free black phosphorus flake.
COATING WITH STRONG ADHESION FOR MEDICAL MAGNESIUM ALLOYS AND PREPARATION THEREOF
A coating with strong adhesion for medical magnesium alloys, including a magnesium phosphate or calcium phosphate layer as an inner layer and a hydrophobic polymer layer as an outer layer. The inner layer is attached to the medical magnesium alloy; and the outer layer is attached to the inner layer. A preparation method of the coating is also provided, including: (S1) carrying out surface treatment on a medical magnesium alloy substrate; (S2) preparing a solution including magnesium salt/calcium salt and phosphoric acid/phosphate followed by pH adjustment and heating; (S3) soaking the medical magnesium alloy substrate in the solution followed by washing and drying to obtain a magnesium phosphate/calcium phosphate layer-coated medical magnesium alloy sample; and (S4) depositing a hydrophobic polymer layer on the medical magnesium alloy sample through chemical vapor deposition (CVD).
Method for manufacturing bone implants and bone implant
The method of making an implant consists on coating of a supporting structure (1) with synthetic hydroxyapatite by immersing the supporting structure (1) in a suspension (3) and triggering of a cavitation in a portion of the suspension (3) being in contact with the supporting structure (1). The suspension (3) is formed by a liquid external phase, advantageously water, and internal phase, i.e. particles of synthetic hydroxyapatite having an average particle size not exceeding 100 nm and containing structural water in an amount from 2 to 6% by weight. The implant is coated with the above described hydroxyapatite subjected to cavitation and a thickness of 50 nm to 1000 nm, advantageously 50 nm to 300 nm.
