Blood filter

A blood filter device having an iron-chelating molecule, a haem-binding molecule and a haemoglobin-binding molecule bound to a support. Use of the device in a vessel containing blood, for example a blood bag or a flow line, removes haemolysis-derived components from the blood.

Apparatus and methods for processing blood

Apparatus and methods for processing blood are disclosed in which one variation generally comprises a tube defining a channel and an access tube extending into the channel. An open cell matrix configured to entrap red blood cells may be positioned within at least a portion of the channel. Another variation generally comprises a cylindrical tube and a plunger slidably positioned within the channel. The plunger also has a funnel positioned upon the plunger and is movable therewith. Both the plunger and funnel define a fluid channel through and in communication with the cylindrical tube.

Multiple blood bag system

Disclosed is a multiple bag system for fractionating blood, the system including a fluid collecting bag including at least one outlet port; at least first and second sampling bags, each including at least one inlet port and at least one outlet port; and a unit for transferring fluid from the fluid collecting bag to the sampling bags; wherein the unit for transferring fluid includes an acoustic sorter. Also disclosed is a method for fractionating blood into blood products.

Control Of Fluid Flow During Priming Of A Fluid Flow Circuit

A fluid processing system includes a fluid processing device and a fluid flow circuit. The device includes a pump configured to convey a priming fluid through the circuit. The pressure in a conduit of the circuit is measured while the pump is operated at a particular rate. When the magnitude of the pressure is less than the magnitude of a predetermined pressure at the end of a time interval, the pump is operated at an increased rate. When the magnitude of the pressure is greater than the magnitude of the predetermined pressure at the end of the time interval, the pump is instead operated at a decreased rate. The magnitude of the pressure in the conduit is again compared to the magnitude of the predetermined pressure after the pump has operated at the increased or decreased rate for the time interval to determine how to next adjust the operational rate.

BLOOD INDICATOR PANEL

Disclosed are methods, materials and devices for approximation of blood volume in a fluid, such as in a biological fluid collected during a surgical procedure. The method and devices may include the use of an RBC flocculant, for example polyDADMAC, and an approximate blood hematocrit from the type of animal blood being evaluated, as well as a calculated RBC packing ratio corresponding to the collection device being used. Also provided is a Blood Indicator Panel (BIP), comprising a series of markings calculated from an observed red blood settlement volume, the average animal blood hematocrit, and a calculated RBC packing ratio “n” value for the collection device. A collection device with a BIP is disclosed. Pediatric (about 200 ml or 250 ml size container), adult human (about 1,000 ml -1,500 ml) and veterinary (about 500 ml - 2,500 ml) collection containers are also disclosed, that include a RBC flocculant, for use in approximating blood volume in a fluid.

METHODS AND DEVICES FOR SEPARATION OF BLOOD COMPONENTS

The present disclosure relates to methods and devices for the separation of blood components including separation by rapid sedimentation, including in an automated fashion.

Filtering in pre-evacuated containers

An independent blood filter device depends on flow geometry to deliver blood serum or plasma free of detrimental levels of hemoglobin. It depends critically on an upstream flow rate or pressure differential limiting control element or device that limits the rate of change of pressure differential across the filter element. Pre-evacuated versions can be used to simultaneously draw blood from a living being and provide pressure differential across the filter element between an evacuated collector and a supply end open to atmosphere. A unit pressurized by hand motion employs the external shape of a partially filled blood collection tube as a piston to produce pressure in advance of the control element or device to create the pressure differential across the filter element to a collector vented to atmosphere. The control element or device is disclosed in numerous forms, including specially sized flow constrictions and compliant arrangements.

Gas treatment delivery systems and methods

The present disclosure provides apparatuses and systems for delivering a measureable absorbed-dose of a gaseous activating agent to a fluid including a biological liquid and/or cells. The apparatuses or systems include a gas-fluid contact device configured to controllably rotate or oscillate a control member having an interior surface in contact with the fluid and a control system configured to control rotation or oscillation of the contact member by the gas-fluid contact device. In some embodiments, the control system is further configured to control absorption of the gaseous activating agent by the fluid. The present disclosure also provides methods of treating a fluid including a biological liquid or cells with a gaseous activating agent to controllably activate the fluid.

PLATELET RELEASE SYSTEM AND PLATELET RELEASE METHOD

The invention relates to a system for platelet release from a fluid comprising in particular megakaryocytic cells comprising cytoplasmic extensions.

The system allows to reproduce the pipetting process performed manually by means of a pipette, thereby permitting a continuous and automatic release of platelets.

This is performed on a large scale since the geometry of the system according to the invention allows to treat large volumes of fluid with a high flow rate (of the order of a plurality of liters per hour), thereby making it particularly suitable for use on an industrial scale.

The invention also relates to a method for platelet release from a fluid comprising in particular megakaryocytic cells comprising cytoplasmic extensions, said method being implemented by means of the abovementioned system.
