PETAL BREASTFEEDING SHIELD
20230055995 · 2023-02-23 ·

The petal breastfeeding shield is configured for comfort and to facilitate the breastfeeding of an infant. The shield is formed of a soft thermoplastic elastomeric, e.g., silicone rubber or the like, and has a major portion closely conforming to the major contours of the female human breast. The major portion is relatively thin, the portion covering the areola being relatively thick and the nipple portion having an intermediate thickness. The hollow nipple includes reinforcing and spacing ribs therein to preclude contact with the natural nipple due to suction and resulting blockage of milk flow. One embodiment is configured for use by full term infants, and another embodiment has a smaller nipple extension for use by premature infants. Different shapes and sizes shapes of cut outs or voids may be provided to suit the nursing mother. The petal shield has a wide range of cut outs or voids in a variety of shapes and shape sizes for skin-to-skin contact for infant to smell mother while breastfeeding.

Apparatuses for collecting breast milk are described herein. The apparatuses include a body having a front side and a rear side opposed to the front side, the body defining a cavity and the rear side defining an opening shaped for receiving a portion of a user's breast. The cavity has an upper region for receiving the portion of the user's breast and a lower region for collecting the breast milk. The opening is positioned adjacent to the upper region of the cavity. The apparatuses may include a suction generating device for modulating the negative pressure in the cavity when the apparatus is pressed against the user's breast.

Device and method for collecting and dispensing colostrum

A device for collecting colostrum from a breast of a human and dispensing the colostrum to a newborn may include a colostrum collection member and a plunger. The colostrum collection member may include a funnel-shaped proximal portion with a wide, open end for facilitating collection of expressed colostrum, a narrow distal portion with a small-diameter opening for dispensing the expressed colostrum to the newborn, and a cylindrical barrel portion between the funnel-shaped proximal portion and the narrow distal portion. The plunger is configured for advancement through the wide, open end and the barrel portion of the collection member to force the colostrum out of the small-diameter opening.

Breastmilk Pumping And Feeding Systems And Methods

Methods and breast pump devices for simultaneous pumping and feeding breastmilk in the nursing position and quantification of breastmilk consumption are provided. A breast pump device includes a nipple shield for receiving a nipple, a housing having a throughput aperture and a fluid path, the fluid path extending from the nipple shield to the throughput aperture, and a negative pressure source. In some embodiments, the housing further includes a gate to control the quantity of breastmilk displaced to a baby. In some embodiments, the gate operates to respond to the amount of breastmilk displaced to the baby, and thereby allows for quantification. In some embodiments, the quantity of breastmilk displaced is also recorded.
