A blood processing apparatus includes an optional heat exchanger and a gas exchanger disposed within a housing. In some instances, the gas exchanger can include a screen filter spirally wound into the gas exchanger such that blood passing through the gas exchanger passes through the screen filter and is filtered by the spirally wound screen filter a plurality of times.

REGULATING BLOOD FLOW IN EXTRACORPOREAL CIRCULATION

A system for regulating blood flow in extracorporeal circulation, and including a blood reservoir to receive blood from a patient, an oxygenator to condition the blood, a centrifugal pump to pump the blood from the blood reservoir to the oxygenator and back to the patient, an electronic remote clamp to regulate flow of the blood, and a controller to operate in a flow control mode and a speed control mode. The controller includes an operational element to set a blood flow value in the flow control mode and to set a speed of the centrifugal pump in the speed control mode. The controller to automatically switch between the flow control mode and the speed control mode in response to one or more trigger conditions and to automatically switch between the speed control mode and the flow control mode in response to opening the electronic remote clamp.

COMBINED BLOOD PUMP AND OXYGENATOR SYSTEM AND RELATED METHODS

A blood pump-oxygenator system comprises at least one blood pump, an oxygenator, inflow and outflow cannulas, connected to form a closed series circuit operable as a cardiopulmonary bypass system for extracorporeal processing of the patient's blood. The blood pump conveys blood through the circuit from the patient into the inflow cannula, through the oxygenator and out of the outflow cannula back into the patient. A manifold is connected between the inflow and outflow cannulas so blood passes through the manifold, wherein the manifold accommodates the blood pump and the oxygenator to form a recirculation loop configured to recirculate at least part of the blood in the circuit so the blood passes over the oxygenator multiple times. An extra blood pump is positioned at the outflow cannula to deliver a set volume to the patient, controllable independently from the blood pump that circulates the blood in the manifold including the oxygenator.

Endovascular apparatus for perfusing organs in a body

In one representative embodiment, a method of perfusing organs in a patient's body is provided. The method comprises isolating the visceral arteries and the visceral veins from blood circulating through the patient's heart and perfusing the visceral arteries, the visceral veins, and the abdominal organs with a perfusion fluid that is fluidly separated from the blood circulating through the patient's heart. While the visceral arteries and the visceral veins are isolated, and the visceral arteries, the visceral veins, and the abdominal organs are being perfused, the patient's blood is allowed to continue to circulate through the heart.

Ultra low-leakage silicone-based heater thermally coupled to a heat transfer body

Systems and methods include a heat transfer body with opposing major surfaces formed from a thermally conductive substrate in intimate thermal interaction with an alumina exterior surface that extends across the major surfaces of the body. In an illustrative example, the heat source may be a substantially planar, silicone-based heater source (P-SBHS). The heat transfer body may be configured to thermally interact, for example, heat from a heat source proximate a first of the major surfaces to a second of the major surfaces. A temperature sensor module may be located, for example, proximate to the first major surface such that a temperature sensor thermally interacts with the first major surface. The temperature sensor module may, for example, insulate the temperature sensor from the P-SBHS.
