Systems and methods for cleaning and maintaining artificial airways sized for insertion within pediatric or neonatal patients (e.g., external diameters of less than 5 mm) are disclosed. The system includes a multi-port ventilator manifold configured to couple to a ventilation source, thereby forming a ventilator circuit with the patient. The manifold includes an occluder configured to advantageously reduce an amount of dead space in the manifold so as to prevent less of positive end expiratory pressure of the ventilator circuit and reduce the likelihood of broncho-pulmonary dysplasia of the patient, or even premature death.

An endotracheal tube to bag valve device connecting assembly for quick access to an endotracheal tube for suctioning includes a first tube and a second tube that are coupled to a hinge so that the first tube is positioned to be swiveled relative to the second tube to align the first tube with the second tube, wherein the first tube and the second tube define a pipe. A first end of the pipe is configured to selectively couple to a patient valve of a bag valve device. A second end of the pipe is configured to selectively couple to an endotracheal tube. The pipe is configured to allow flow of gas from the bag valve device to the endotracheal tube. The first tube is positioned to be swiveled on the hinge so that the second tube is configured to insert a suction tube into the endotracheal tube to clear an airway.

System for assisting a patient in speaking, comprising at least one ventilation apparatus and a patient interface, the ventilation apparatus comprising at least one controllable respiratory gas source and being designed to identify two or more respiratory phases, at least inspiration and expiration, of the patient, and the patient interface having at least one speaking tube and a respiratory tube and being configured to conduct speaking gas to the patient via the speaking tube and to conduct respiratory gas to and/or from the patient via the respiratory tube. The system is configured to provide speaking gas to the patient at least temporarily in a speaking mode in order to enable speaking.

An endotracheal tube that is particularly useful for surgical operations on a patient's lower face. The endotracheal tube comprises a swivel segment and a laryngeal segment that are rotatably joined. To facilitate relocation of the endotracheal tube during surgery, the swivel segment can be swiveled in relation to the laryngeal segment. To allow instruments to be inserted, the swivel segment has a lumen access port that opens into the lumen of the swivel segment. The laryngeal segment may have a reinforced portion to prevent occlusion or damage by the patient biting. Also disclosed are methods for performing surgery on a patient's face using the endotracheal tube and methods of intubating a patient's airway using the endotracheal tube.

The present invention relates to a tracheal protective ventilation device specially adapted for use with neonates, a stylet that aids in insertion and spatial verification of the tracheal protective ventilation device, and methods for using the same. The ventilation provided by the devices of the present invention is atraumatic to the trachea and the glottis compared to ventilation devices currently available in the art, and has the additional feature of allowing the administration of nutritional matter to the gut without interrupting airflow.

The invention relates to an artificial airway device to facilitate lung ventilation of a patient, comprising an airway tube, a gastric drain tube and a mask at one end of the airway tube, the mask including a backplate and having a peripheral formation capable of forming a seal around the circumference of the laryngeal inlet, the peripheral formation surrounding a hollow interior space or lumen of the mask and the airway tube opening into the lumen of the mask, wherein the mask includes an atrium for passage to the gastric drain tube of gastric matter leaving the oesophagus.

Specifically, systems and methods are disclosed for creating a functional and anatomical map of the lungs, diagnosing a condition within the lungs, generating a treatment plan for a target site within the lungs, navigating to the target site, administering a treatment directly to the target site for immediate absorption within the target site, and assessing the efficacy of the treatment.

A device for irrigation of an oral cavity in a patient includes a suction element configured to be disposed in the oral cavity and configured to suction a fluid out of the oral cavity. The suction element also has one or more irrigation outlets configured to irrigate the oral cavity with the fluid. A suction line is fluidly coupled with the suction element and is configured to be fluidly coupled with a vacuum source. An irrigation line is fluidly coupled with the one or more irrigation outlets and is fluidly coupled with a source of the fluid.

A face mask (also called full face) for respiratory therapy, in particular for non-invasive mechanical ventilation, has a low value of CO.sub.2 rebreathing. The mask includes a shaped shell to cover at least the mouth, the nose and the eyes of a patient when the mask is worn, and includes, on said shaped shell an inlet fitting for the connection to a pipe through which a ventilation apparatus supplies the mask with a mixture of air and oxygen, and an outlet fitting, separate from said inlet fitting, for the discharge of air exhaled by the patient. With this arrangement, the mask allows drastically reducing the phenomenon of carbon dioxide rebreathing, which is very harmful for the patient subjected to ventilation.

An endotracheal tube is disclosed that allows a patient to speak while intubated. The endotracheal tube includes a balloon for seating against the trachea and a collapsible portion proximal to the balloon that aligns with the vocal cords. The collapsible portion may be held open by an inner tube which translates within the endotracheal tube. Suction and balloon inflation conduits span the collapsible portion so that suction and balloon inflation may be performed while the patient is speaking. A small distal tube that bypasses the balloon provides some airflow while the patient speaks.
