Apparatuses (devices, systems) and methods for shielding (protecting) surroundings around periphery of regions of interest located inside objects (e.g., patients) from radiation emitted by X-ray systems towards the objects. Apparatus includes: at least one radiation shield assembly including a support base connectable to an X-ray system radiation source or detector, and a plurality of radiation shield segments sequentially positioned relative to the support base, thereby forming a contiguous radiopaque screen configured for spanning around the region of interest periphery with a radiopaque screen edge opposing the object. Radiation shield segments are individually, actively controllable to extend or contract to selected lengths with respective free ends in directions away from or towards the support base(s), for locally changing contour of the radiopaque screen edge. Applicable for shielding (protecting) medical personnel, and patients, from exposure to X-ray radiation during medical interventions or/and diagnostics.

Live view camera for radiation therapy

An apparatus for use with a medical system, the medical system comprising a medical device configured to treat and/or image a patient, includes: a camera configured to capture an image of a first mirror, wherein the image of the first mirror contains an image of at least a part of the patient and/or an image of at least a part of the medical system; wherein the camera comprises electronics that are not radiation-hard.

BEAM SHAPING ASSEMBLY FOR NEUTRON CAPTURE THERAPY
20180001112 · 2018-01-04 ·

A beam shaping assembly for neutron capture therapy includes a beam inlet, a target having nuclear reaction with an incident proton beam from the beam inlet to produce neutrons forming a neutron beam, a moderator adjoining to the target, a reflector surrounding the moderator, a thermal neutron absorber adjoining to the moderator, a radiation shield arranged inside the beam shaping assembly and a beam outlet. The material of the moderator is subjected to a powder sintering process using a powder sintering device so as to change powders or a power compact into blocks. The reflector leads the neutrons deviated from the main axis back. The thermal neutron absorber is used for absorbing thermal neutrons so as to avoid overdosing in superficial normal tissue during therapy. The radiation shield is used for shielding leaking neutrons and photons so as to reduce dose of the normal tissue not exposed to irradiation.

Systems, Devices and Methods for the Remote Activation of Medicines and Medical Devices
20230001235 · 2023-01-05 ·

New techniques for remote administration of medicine and medical devices using an external guidance and activation system are provided. In some embodiments, medicine(s) and/or medical device(s) is/are energized to a predetermined threshold energy level by externally applied radiation, and then driven into the treatment target. The design of such device(s) (e.g., injectable machine(s)) may include sub-device(s), e.g., medical payload-carrying reservoir(s), injector(s) and abrasive tool(s), which may be activated magnetically and/or by such radiation. In some aspects, such sub-device(s) include actuable housing(s) and/or other sub-tool(s), delivering drugs to specific locations commanded by a control system or a user. In other aspects, a medicine and/or device is provided with multiple dipoles, each oriented differently in three-dimensional space, allowing a guidance control system, remote from the medicine or device, to drive the movement and three-dimensional orientation of the medical agent or particle according to a three-dimensional path.

When the moving part is in the fourth position, the vacuum tube is in the second position, and the neutron generating part is located at the outer side of the beam shaping assembly.

Bragg-peak three-dimensional manufacturing with resins

This patent application claims the use of directed energy in the form of electronically scanned ion beams to form plastic parts by selectively curing commodity or engineering resin in the shape of the part. Polymerization is limited to the vicinity of the controlled Bragg-peak of the ion beam (i.e., where linear energy transfer is maximized), if necessary, by the use of chemical polymerization inhibitors or conditions that inhibit polymerization.
