Device and Method for Reducing Foreign Body Response from Neural Implants

A device for reducing foreign body response in a subject caused by an electrode implanted in a subject's tissue. A base is secured to the subject, having a base aperture in proximity to the target site. The base can receive and align a body thereon. A body contains a chamber extending between a chamber aperture, aligned with the base aperture, at one end and a chamber opening at an opposite end. The chamber contains an acoustic coupling medium, such as polyvinyl alcohol cryogel, transmits acoustic vibrations from a transducer without altering their frequency. The transducer is mounted to the device and is configured to transmit acoustic vibrations into the chamber and through said acoustic coupling medium to the subject tissue at the target site, creating an acoustic field in the target site sufficient to reduce foreign body response in the subject where the electrode contacts the target tissue.

Preferably, the transducer emits either at a single frequency or in a frequency sweep, in a frequency range of 185-333 kHz, and even more preferably at 244 kHz.

Ultrasound imaging and therapy device

An ultrasound imaging and therapy device includes an array of concentric annular ultrasound transducers, and an ultrasound imaging device situated inside an innermost transducer of the plurality of concentric annular ultrasound transducers, wherein it further comprises a mechanical linkage allowing a tilting movement of the array of concentric annular ultrasound transducers with respect to the ultrasound imaging device and in that the ultrasound imaging device protrudes in an axial direction from the array of concentric annular ultrasound transducers; whereby the ultrasound imaging device can be kept stationary and in direct or indirect contact with a patient's skin while the array of concentric annular ultrasound transducers is tilted so as to move a focal point of ultrasound waves generated by the concentric annular ultrasound transducers within an imaging region of the ultrasound imaging device.

The present invention relates to a device for transport and preservation of an ex vivo biological sample and corresponding method. The device (1) comprises a chamber (2) for containing the biological sample (100), delimitated by walls (4) made of a thermal insulating material. The device, furthermore, incorporates cooling means (6) that keep the temperature inside the chamber (2) below the temperature outside the device (1). Finally, an ultrasound system suitable for generating and applying ultrasound on the biological sample (100) is provided. The invention also proposes a method for transport and preservation which combines applying cooling and ultrasound to reduce cell damage in the biological sample.

AUTOMATED ULTRASOUND APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR NONINVASIVE VESSEL RECANALIZATION TREATMENT AND MONITORING
20180001114 · 2018-01-04 ·

An apparatus and method for automatically lysing a clot to recanalize vessels using ultrasound, with or without nanoparticles, microbubbles, thrombolytic drugs or other agents, is described herein. At least one ultrasound transducer with a specified geometry, bandwidth and/or transmit pulse characteristics can generate a more uniform 3-dimensional volume of defocused acoustic energy into a target area of the body. When an agent (such as, but not limited to, microbubbles) is used to lyse a clot, a certain level of ultrasound energy may be desired in order to effect certain actions or states of the agent. Bone attenuation may present an issue inhibiting sufficient ultrasound energy from reaching the agent in order to attain the desired agent action. The relative patient dimensions and location of the clot may also present an issue.

A therapeutic apparatus for therapeutic ultrasonic treatment of a tissue region that contains a flowing liquid has at least one ultrasonic source and a control unit for activating the ultrasonic source in order to radiate ultrasonic pulses according to a pulse parameter set into the tissue region. The therapeutic apparatus has a measuring system configured to determine a flow velocity of the liquid and a focus control system configured to move a focus region of the ultrasonic pulse relative to the tissue region over a longitudinal portion. A movement direction of the focus region therein corresponds to a flow direction of the liquid and a movement velocity of the focus region corresponds to the flow velocity.

IMPLANTABLE SELF-CLOSING CUFF

A cuff is described for a target anatomic feature within a body, along with a system for utilizing the cuff. The cuff includes a band defining a circumferential opening extending along a length of the band; and a pair of engagement surfaces defined by or affixed to the cuff, the engagement surfaces structured for application of a spreading force to be distributed continuously along a portion of the circumferential opening, thereby increasing the circumferential opening and expanding the cuff for a closed configuration to an open configuration sized for placement of the cuff. The cuff is structured to remain in the closed configuration in the absence of the spreading force and automatically return to the closed configuration after removal of the spreading force.
