A system for and method of scoring a game of golf is provided. A stroke baseline, a points baseline, and a stroke count are utilized to calculate a hole score for each hole. The stroke baseline is typically derived from the par value for a hole, while the stroke count is typically the total strokes required to complete the hole, including any penalty strokes. Typically, the points baseline for each hole is equal to the distance, in yards, between the player's tee-up location and a target location of the hole, the target location being a location on the putting green. Each player selects a tee-up location for each hole, thereby allowing each player to influence the baseline score for each hole. A performance factor is determined for each hole based on the player's performance on that hole.

The disclosure herein provides a golf GPS device with a sensor mechanism to automatically switch between video and audio only modes of the device. More particularly, when a player attaches the golf GPS device to a piece of clothing or hat, the device automatically switches to audio-only mode. When the player detaches the golf GPS device, the device automatically switches to video mode, with or without audio. The golf GPS device further includes one or more processors configured to repeatedly determine in which one of the plurality of holes the device is located, to repeatedly compute a distance between the device and a feature of the determined hole, and to cause to display the hole number of the determined hole and the computed distance on the display screen.

In a first aspect, a method for monitoring a golf swing is provided that includes coupling a mobile telephone to a golf club and employing the mobile telephone coupled to the golf club to monitor acceleration of the mobile telephone as the mobile telephone swings while a user swings the golf club, collect acceleration information based on the monitored acceleration of the mobile telephone as the mobile telephone swings, analyze the collected acceleration information to determine one or more characteristics of the golf swing based on the collected acceleration information, and output information regarding the one or more characteristics of the golf swing on the display of the mobile telephone. An electronic golf aid system for assisting users with reading greens on golf courses includes a camera that captures images of the user's field of view, and an electronic display device with a display screen that displays captured images. A processor, which communicates with the camera and display device, is programmed to: receive signals from the camera indicative of images of a golf ball and a cup on the green; determine respective locations for the golf ball and cup; determine a perspective view of the topology of the green between the golf ball and cup from the user's point of view; determine, based on the green's topology, a proposed trajectory line from the golf ball's location to the cup's location; and direct the electronic display device to display the proposed trajectory line superimposed on the surface of the green as the green is shown in real-time on the display screen.

A method and system for an instant multifunctional tent having a tent for accepting golf balls that are launched into the tent, a collapsible frame structure for providing structural support for the instant tent, one or more receiving net(s) coupled to the tent ceiling, and extending loosely towards the floor, and a quick set-up and take-down (instant) hub for quickly launching the tent from the folded position into a fully built or expanded position and for quickly collapsing the fully built or expanded instant tent into the fully folded position so that the instant tent may be easily stored and transported. The receiving nets increase golf practicing safety by ensuring the golf ball never penetrating the back panel and causing damages. Additional receiving nets not only further ensure that but also add advanced features like tracking and simulating the trajectory of the golf ball if shot on a real golf court.

The present method and apparatus capture the position of a golf ball on a golf course consistently and accurately using consumer-grade, affordable technology. The output provides the latitude and longitude of the ball along with, optionally, additional insights including surface type, club, stroke, penalties, etc. Accuracy can differ slightly depending on location but is typically within a matter of feet. For example, the rough may be less accurate whereas the greens should be very accurate. This method and apparatus utilize 3-5 trackers, typically volunteers, per hole to capture shot-level data while leveraging commercially available smart devices and range finders.

A method includes providing a first video file to a plurality of exercise machines, the first video file including content associated with an exercise class. The method also includes receiving user data from the plurality of exercise machines, the user data including respective settings associated with a common performance metric. In such a method, the respective settings are used on the plurality of exercise machines during playback of a particular part of the first video file. The method also includes identifying a timestamp associated with the particular part of the first video file, and generating an executable control corresponding to the performance metric. The method further includes generating a second video file comprising the content and the executable control. In such methods, playback of the second video file causes display of the executable control at a part of the second video file corresponding to the timestamp.
