An adjustment lace is connected to the ankle compression member and is operatively connected to a tightening member positioned on a lateral side of the outer shell so that operation of the tightening causes the adjustment lace to forcibly draw the ankle compression member toward and exert a selective compressive force against the anterior ankle portion of the person's foot.

My invention is an ankle reinforcing device for the prevention of medial and/or lateral ankle injuries such as sprains or breaks. The object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive but highly effective device which will allow free and unhampered movement of the wearer's foot while engaged in athletic events or other physical activity but will prevent movement in such a direction and to such an extent that would result in spraining or breaking an ankle. The ankle reinforcing device is constructed from an underlying member which covers all or part of the foot and part of the leg above the ankle, reinforcing members attached to or integral with the underlying member, and means to securely attach the device to the wearer. The reinforcing members are arranged in a pattern to prevent excessive movement of the ankle in the medial and/or lateral directions, while allowing free up and down movement of the foot.

The present invention provides a sports protection device (e.g. a shin pad) for protecting a portion of a wearer's body (e.g. their shin). The sports protection device comprises a lining layer for facing the wearer's body (shin) and an opposing composite layer superimposed on said lining layer. The composite layer comprises wood particles within a thermoplastic polymer matrix. The lining and composite layers are shaped to substantially match the contour of the portion of the wearer's body (shin). A moldable blank for forming a sports protection device is also provided.
