A closure panel substantially fills the open area of the partially-assembled casing. A backing layer is radially inward of, and attached to, the closure panel. The backing layer extends beyond a peripheral boundary of the closure panel, such that the backing layer at least partially overlaps one or more of the joined panels adjacent to the open area of the partially-assembled casing. A bladder is radially inward of, and attached to, the closure panel. The bladder includes a valve for introducing fluid into the ball. The valve extends through the backing layer and the closure panel. A backing patch may be attached either to the closure or the partially-assembled casing, and overlaps a portion of both.

The inflatable sports ball may further comprise a cover disposed about the bladder, the cover comprising an outer cover layer and an intermediate structure. The intermediate structure is disposed between the outer cover layer and the bladder. The intermediate structure comprises a restriction structure. The restriction structure may comprise a plurality of overlapping strips. Each of the overlapping strips is interwoven with each of the other strips and wrapped about the bladder circumference. In this way, the restriction structure comprises a uniform number of radially-stacked layers of the overlapping strips over a substantial entirety of the exterior bladder surface between the exterior bladder surface and the outer cover layer.

An antimicrobial sportsball includes a ball carcass having an interior cavity and an antimicrobial ball cover, covering the ball carcass. The antimicrobial ball cover contains and releases antimicrobial agent to the ball surface and the environment. The ball carcass includes an inflatable bladder adapted to be inflated into a designated size and shape and a cushion layer covering the inflatable wound or lined bladder, so as to provide additional cushioning effect and form channels.

An antimicrobial sportsball includes a ball carcass having an interior cavity and an antimicrobial ball cover, covering the ball carcass. The antimicrobial ball cover contains and releases antimicrobial agent to the ball surface and the environment. The ball carcass includes an inflatable bladder adapted to be inflated into a designated size and shape and a cushion layer covering the inflatable wound or lined bladder, so as to provide additional cushioning effect and form channels.
