11562107 · 2023-01-24 · ·

Systems and methods are provided for generating a design for a gliding board. The methods involve operating a processor to: define a desired carved turn of the gliding board; define a desired global curvature profile; generate a desired deformed shape of the gliding board during the desired carved turn; generate a sidecut profile of the gliding board; generate a width profile of the gliding board; generate a camber profile of the gliding board; generate at least one stiffness design variable profile; generate a total load profile; modify at least the width profile, the sidecut profile and at least one of the at least one stiffness design variable profile at least once; and define the design for the gliding board based at least on the width profile, the camber profile, and the at least one stiffness design variable profile.

An apparatus for traveling across snow includes a ski having opposing ends, a top surface, a bottom surface, and an aperture extending therethrough between the top and bottom surfaces. The apparatus also includes a centerboard pivotally connected to the ski and disposed at least partially within the aperture in the ski. The apparatus further includes a binding plate configured to have a boot binding connected thereto.

COUNTER-ROTATING FIN STEERING SYSTEM FOR BOARD SPORTS
20230201700 · 2023-06-29 ·

A steering system for a snowboard includes two binding interface pods, one of which may be active and one of which may be passive. Rotation or tilting of a top plate of the active binding interface pod in response to rotation or tilting of the rider’s steering foot causes counter-rotation of a steering fin under the rider’s steering foot. The passive binding interface pod is responsive via a linkage between the active and passive binding interface pods to cause rotation of a steering fin under the rider’s non-steering foot. Coordinated counter-rotation of the steering fins causes the board to turn in the direction of rotation of the rider’s steering foot when the steering fins are unaligned. Optionally, both binding pods may be active in steering, i.e. enabling two footed steering.

The present invention relates to such a system, apparatus, and a method for allowing freedom and range of motion, movement, and spatial position on at least a snowboard or other board device. In one embodiment of the present invention, a mechanism of non-injury or MONI is used to allow a rider of a snowboard (or other device) the ability to move in multiple dimensions (in multiple angles and in multiple planes); the MONI embodiment allows a snowboard or other device to be inverted and offers an adjustable safety release mechanism as akin to skis. In another embodiment of the present invention, electro-magnetism is used to secure a rider to a snowboard (or other device) instead of a boot-binding, finally allowing a rider to maneuver like a skateboarder or surfer, with the ability to move anywhere on the board at will.
