A device or system is provided that provides olfactory stimuli, and includes a piezoelectric vibration device that is used to produce scents corresponding to actions performed in a VR or AR environment, or other application. In some implementations, a user interacts with one or more game elements within a game program being executed by a game engine, and responsive to the interaction, the game engine may communicate a series of commands that cause a piezoelectric device of the device to generate scents to be experienced by the user.

The system generates one or more commands for generating the odor impression based on the spatial characteristics. The system transmits the command(s) to a controller for execution. The controller may control dispersal of scented media to generate the odor impression.

REPLACEABLE LIQUID SCENT CARTRIDGE
A convenient system with replacement hardware is provided for rendering scents within a computing environment. In some implementations, a scent cartridge unit is provided that is replaceable within a scent-rendering hardware unit that is computer-controlled to render one or more scents to be experienced by a user. The scent-rendering hardware unit includes one or more aerosol generators that are adapted to release individual scents. In some implementations, more than one scent may be released at the same time, rendering a complex scent. In some implementations, base scent material may be provided within multiple aerosol generators within an array, and the base scent material may be released in predetermined amounts, durations, and intensities depending on the desired scent. The array may be electronically driven by signals provided by driver circuitry.

A fragrance presentation device for use with a display device which can be mounted on the head of a user includes a fragrance presentation module disposed in a fragrance presentation position in the vicinity of the nostrils of a person on which the display device is mounted, a fragrance holder having a fragrance container for holding a fragrance therein, the fragrance holder placing the fragrance container in a position spaced from the fragrance presentation position at least while the fragrance is not presented, and delivering the fragrance out of the fragrance container when the fragrance in the fragrance container is presented, and a fragrance conductor for conducting the fragrance which has been delivered out of the fragrance holder to the fragrance presentation module.
