A filtration device comprising a media basket, a baseplate, and a canister. The media basket is affixed to the baseplate. The canister has a cavity therein and is detachably coupled with the baseplate to enclose the media basket. The media basket contains a porous filtration material that efficiently removes contaminants from liquid. The device is configured to establish a first siphon to convey liquid from outside the device into the canister cavity through a canister pipe when a liquid level outside the filtration device is higher than the top of the weir in the canister pipe and configured to establish a second siphon to convey liquid from canister cavity through the top of a center riser pipe and out an outlet pipe when the first siphon has been established and the liquid level outside the filtration device is higher than the top of the center riser pipe.

A filter element for a fluid has a filter medium arranged in annular shape about a longitudinal axis to be flowed through by the fluid to be filtered radially. A coaxial outlet socket is arranged at an end of the filter element facing upwardly in filtering operation. The coaxial outlet socket has a fluid outlet channel for filtered fluid and a venting channel that vents a clean side and/or a raw side of the filter element. The venting channel coaxially surrounds the fluid outlet channel radially and extends at least in sections thereof in axial direction. A liquid filter for a motor vehicle may include a hollow cylindrical housing bowl, a cover that closes the housing bowl, a suspended, hollow cylindrical particle filter arranged in the housing bowl, a catch basin that is opened towards the cover, and an edge overflow. The particle filter may extend parallel to a longitudinal center axis of the housing bowl and may divide the housing bowl into a clean liquid chamber and into a raw liquid chamber.
