The invention has particular utility in connection with personal protective equipment (PPE’s) such as surgical masks and respirators, and will be described in connection with such utilities, although other utilities are contemplated, including, for example for forming air handling filters for people movers, i.e., automobiles, trucks, buses, trains, ships and planes, as well as for forming filters for air handling equipment for buildings.
ACTIVATED CARBON-COMPOSITE MATERIALS, FILTERS, AND PREPARATION METHODS THEREOF
A composite filtration material is provided as well as a method for preparing the same. A filter is also provided that is fabricated with the presently disclosed composite filtration material. In various aspects, the provided composite filtration material may include activated carbon doped with silver and/or iron oxide. A one-step thermal decomposition process is provided that may be employed to prepare the provided composite filtration materials. The one-step thermal decomposition process may include dissolving one or more precursors in water, spraying the dissolved one or more precursors onto activated carbon, and heating the activated carbon saturated with the one or more precursors for a predetermined amount of time. The inventors have found that the provided composite filtration materials are more effective (e.g., higher removal of pollutants) and have a longer service life as compared to typical activated carbon filtration materials.
AIR FILTRATION MATERIAL, FILTERS COMPRISING THE SAME AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME
The present disclosure relates to a method for manufacturing an air filtration material, in which the porous metallic support is treated with at least one chemical agent to improve adherence of the electrospun nanofibers. The air filtration material obtained from such method comprises nanoparticle photocatalysts, wherein the nanoparticle photocatalysts are embedded in the electrospun nanofibers and part of the nanoparticle photocatalysts is exposed at the surface of the electrospun nanofibers through nanopores. An air filtration device, comprising the air filtration material, a UV LED and a power source. A method of using the air filtration material wherein an air flow passes through the air filtration material, wherein the air flow has a pollutant content before passing through the material, in order to decrease the air pollutant content. The nanoparticle photocatalysts inactivate or kill the pathogens when the device is in operation.
FILTER MEDIA, FILTER CARTRIDGE CONTAINING FILTER MEDIA, AND METHOD OF FILTERING WATER
A filter medium for removing contaminants from water includes a matrix including a plurality of fibers having an electrostatic charge such that the matrix is configured to remove contaminants from water by electrostatic attraction. The filter medium further includes a filler material including a ceramic substrate containing a mineral. The filler material is embedded in the matrix. When water flows through the filter medium, the mineral at least partially dissolves in the water such that a cavity is formed in the matrix in a location of the at least partially dissolved mineral.

Bacterial cellulose-based air filter mesh and use thereof
A bacterial cellulose-based air filter mesh and use thereof are disclosed. The bacterial cellulose-based air filter mesh comprises a three-layer structure, in which a layer of a bacterial cellulose-based filter mesh is sandwiched by two layers of polymer fiber filter meshes; wherein the polymer fiber filter mesh is a mesh having a uniform grid size formed from polymer fibers by blended-yarn weaving; and the bacterial cellulose-based filter mesh is formed by in-situ synthesis of bacterial cellulose on a non-woven fabric through fermentation by bacteria. The bacterial cellulose-based air filter mesh has better particle filtering effect, better formaldehyde adsorption capacity, better antibacterial performance and good electrostatic capacity; and it can be used for producing gauze windows, air conditioning filters, air purification filters and the like, and has a wide range of applications.
Cyclonic vehicular traffic pollution control system
A filter may remove PM.sub.2.5 and/or other airborne pollutants, which filter has fibers of an average diameter of no more than 500 nm, the fibers of at least 90 wt. % polyacrylonitrile, relative to all fibers in the filter; and a catalyst of at least 90 wt. % TiO.sub.2, relative to all catalytic metals in the filter, dispersed onto the fibers. The fibers need not be charged. The TiO.sub.2 may be condensed or precipitated onto the fibers out of a liquid containing the TiO.sub.2 and the fibers by simple methods. The catalyst may be activated by UV irradiation to decompose particulate matter having an average particle size of 2.5 μm or less, i.e., PM.sub.2.5, and/or other airborne pollutants from air. Such filters may be implemented around areas of vehicle traffic, e.g., as elements of traffic lights, and may be used to controllably purify polluted air.
