A pump and valve arrangement (201), a dialysis system (10) comprising the pump and valve arrangement 201 and a method of operating a pump and valve arrangement (201). The pump and valve arrangement (201) has a dialyser having a semi-permeable membrane. The pump and valve arrangement (201) delivers dialysis fluid to and from the dialyser (12). The pump and valve arrangement (201) has a control system (450) configured to shuttle dialysis fluid between an inlet pump assembly and the dialyser (12) one or more times so as to agitate the surface of the semi-permeable membrane of the dialyser (12).

FORWARD OSMOTIC SEPARATION SYSTEM AND METHOD
20230066131 · 2023-03-02 ·

Disclosed herein is a forward osmosis module for concentration and/or crystallization salts from an aqueous feed solution, the feed solution including seeds that surround an open semi-permeable membrane having free membrane portions forming an enclosure with a distribution pipe that introduces draw solution inside said enclosure. The feed solution penetrates into the enclosure as permeate from the feed side of the membrane to the draw solution side according to a Forward Osmosis process based on net driving pressure. The draw solution with permeate is evacuated from the enclosure via an outlet. A generator applies, at least periodically, a plurality of directional gauge pressure strokes PGs, directed from at least one of the draw solution inlet and outlet thereby effecting mechanical shaking of the free membrane portions for detachment of foulant.

FORWARD OSMOTIC AND WATER HAMMER METHOD OF MEMBRANE CLEANING
20170216776 · 2017-08-03 ·

Apparatus and method for semi-permeable membrane cleaning in particular, applying series of pulsed water stroke, made simultaneously with osmosis backward flow causing superposed membrane directional shaking and fouling detachment. Pulsed water stroke provided by water stroke generator as several momentum sharp changes in gauge pressure and induce velocity pulse of residual brine flow. The pulsed water strokes ideally induce resonance in the membrane. Osmosis backward wash may be provided either by injection for predetermined injection time, additional solution selected in such way that net driving pressure becomes opposite to normal osmotic operation thereby providing a backward flow of permeate towards to the side opposite to normal operation mode, so as to lift said foulant, or by throttling permeate exiting from the permeate enclosure, until the net driving pressure value become equal to zero, during application of precise synchronized and opposing brine and permeate pressure strokes thereby providing a plurality of quick RO-FO-RO process changes. These procedures allow a membrane to be kept continuously clean and operate at higher recovery.

Method for processing a protein-containing suspension or protein-containing solution

The invention relates to a method for the processing of protein-containing suspensions or solutions, for example for concentrating or purifying the protein-containing particles or dissolved protein-containing substance contained in the suspensions or solutions, wherein the protein-containing suspensions or solutions are filtered by means of a filter module and the protein-containing particles or dissolved protein-containing substance retained in the filter module are conveyed out of the filter module by means of a backwashing fluid.

Cyclic Filtration System
20170259212 · 2017-09-14 ·

A method of filtering a fluid with components includes providing an alternating pressure. The alternating pressure yields an oscillating transmembrane pressure through volume and pressure variations within a filtration chamber while sealing the filtration chamber. A separation surface can be housed in the filtration chamber wherein an influent is introduced. Components can be concentrated on the separation surface, effectively removing some or all of them from the fluid. To flush the filtration chamber and separation surface, a backwash fluid and components can be introduced and removed from the filtration chamber. While both the components are being concentrated and backwashed, the system can maintain the oscillating transmembrane pressure and varying volume and pressure relative to the separation surface.
