A system for producing ethanol comprises a rectifier column that receives a first process stream comprising from about 42% to about 60% ethanol, wherein the rectifier column purifies the first process stream to provide an ethanol product stream that is at least about 90% ethanol, and one or more evaporators configured to evaporate water from a second process stream, wherein the one or more evaporators generate vapor, and wherein at least a portion of the vapor supplies heat energy for separation of ethanol from water in the rectifier column.

Process for obtaining a concentrated protein-rich phase from waste products of bioethanol production

1) A method for obtaining a concentrated protein-rich phase from residues of bioethanol production. 2.1) Previously, the separation of a protein-rich phase from whole stillage from bioethanol production has been achieved either by the addition of chemicals or by process steps that are complex in terms of equipment and/or energy. 2.2) Whole stillage from bioethanol production is fed to a solid-liquid separation, and the liquid phase (thin stillage) resulting from this is partially returned to the mashing process. This recirculation increases the raw protein content in the process. Part of the thin stillage is diluted and fed to a simple separation process without the addition of chemicals and temperature treatment, with a protein-rich phase being obtained. 2.3) A protein-rich phase is obtained from residues of bioethanol production.

Integrated process for ethanol separation from fermented broth for low temperature applications

The present invention provides to a process for recovery of an organic compound (i.e. Ethanol, propanol, butanol, Acetone, iso-propyl alcohol) from a fermented broth which is produced from different fermentation technologies. The present invention particularly relates to an integrated process for ethanol separation from the fermentation broth using integrated vapor compressing unit (turbofans), evaporator (falling film) and a broth stripper column (vacuum distillation system). The process is operated under low temperature for the separation and recovery of the organic compound (particularly ethanol) from the fermented broth containing live microbes typically below or at 50° C. to ensure the activity of the microbes in the broth recycle. Again, the activity of the microbes is further ensured by maintaining the residence time of the microbe containing broth outside the Fermentor is less than or equal to 10 minutes.

HEAT INTEGRATED PROCESS AND SYSTEM FOR ORGANIC SOLVENT PRODUCTION USING VAPOR RECOMPRESSION

A distillation and dehydration system is provided that produces an anhydrous organic solvent. The provided system includes vapor recompression (e.g., a mechanical or thermal vapor recompression unit) to recover heat from a rectification-distillation section (e.g., a rectifier/stripper column). The addition of vapor recompression enables further heat recovery within a stream by increasing the condensation temperature and pressure of that stream and later using its latent heat by condensing it.

A method of extracting nutrients from a plant includes the steps of: pulverizing a water soluble nutrient-based plant part of a first plant material of the plant so as to form a first pulverized plant part; pulverizing a lipid soluble nutrient-based plant part of a second plant material of the plant so as to form a second pulverized plant part; subjecting the first pulverized plant part to a distillation so as to obtain a distillate and a first residue that contains a water soluble nutrient; and immersing the second pulverized plant part in the distillate to form a first mixture followed by distillation of the first mixture, so as to obtain a second residue that contains a lipid soluble nutrient.

ENERGY-EFFICIENT SYSTEMS INCLUDING COMBINED HEAT AND POWER AND MECHANICAL VAPOR COMPRESSION FOR BIOFUEL OR BIOCHEMICAL PLANTS
20170274297 · 2017-09-28 ·

Processes and systems are provided to compress vapors produced in distillation and recover the heat of condensation through mechanical vapor compression and to derive mechanical and electrical energy from a combined heat and power system, while maintaining the plant's original ability to operate. The plant's existing distillation system, steam generation, and electrical demand determine the design basis for the retrofit system that is targeted at an optimized combination of energy usage, energy cost, and environmental impact. Mechanical vapor compression minimizes the total energy usage. Combined heat and power provides a means of converting energy between fuel, electricity, and thermal energy in a manner that best complements plant requirements and energy economics and minimizes inefficiencies and energy losses.

GRAIN ALCOHOL DISTILLATION PLANTS

Improvements in grain alcohol distillation plants by incorporating a novel internal arrangement in the wort column and the rectifying column with distributors and accumulators inside thereof, achieving a stable and safe process in wide ranges of operation, guaranteeing the productivity of the plant and the quality of the products. The wort column features detachable perforated plates, easy to access and clean through manholes. By having easily detachable plates and, also, a manhole for each plate with “holder” type connections, the access to the interior of the column for cleaning and maintenance purposes is facilitated. The rectifying column is a special filling column with flow distributors, it has an intermediate alcohol accumulator and a condenser which is an integral part of the column that prevents the use of pumps. The arrangement of distributors and accumulators within the rectifying column favors the operational stability of the plant, allowing a low scale equipment to work similarly to an industrial scale column. The improvements include an integrated automation system with Internet communication for self-management of the plant with remote monitoring and autonomous operation.
